KARAOKE CONTESTS KILL YOUR CROWD, PERIOD. I have seen people want to beat up judges, not come back for six months and accuse me of rigging the contest. NEVER again will these lips announce another karaoke contest. At least not at any of my jobs. If some of my competition wants to do one, I'll help them chase everyone away.

hi, i'm not a k/j buttttt i have entered a few contest and seen a few i didn't enter...in all but maybe 1 r 2 the best man/woman won....and most agreed...1 contest was for 10.000 dollars...with star judges and no i didn't win any of the contest....loll...still say it was fair, i did come in second once...but in all that i went to r entered it seemed to be run very fair....JMO....by the way...i love contest, win r lose...
this is not to say that alot r not fixed r rigged because i'm sure they r...

plus u would think for 10,000 dollars u would get the very best singers, that wasn't at all the case, they were good but not 10,000 dollars good....but i do think i caught a glimpse of Elvis....so all wasn't lost.... :D

Ok I haven't posted for a while but as some of you already know I couldn't let this thread pass by without my two cents.......words from one of those self promoting karaoke stars....lol

I love contests...but I'm not a KJ....nor do I want to be...it would cut into my singing time.....but I love to compete, I take it seriously.......I practice for hours, I'm careful about what I wear and how I present myself on stage.......I've won my share and lost more than I care to remember......

I find that those of us primadonnas who move from contest to contest do tend to rub some KJs(not all thank God) the wrong way......the truth (whatever that really is) is that singers who can get their feelings hurt that easy need to steer clear of contests....they do only increase business for the period of time that the contest runs....the bigger the prize the larger the crowd (doesn't take long for the contest whores to hear about a good prize)  ....I picked up that term here by the way years ago....I really don't mind being called a contest whore, because it implies that I'm getting some type of compensation.....A contest slut well I don't think I'd care for that title......

As for the comment that if your serious go form a band and do some original stuff...etc etc etc......well I'm too old....yes that's sucks isn't fair and pisses me off but guess what it's a reality....secondly, I don't play an instrument...my instrument is my voice, thank you.....every notice how "true musicians" have a problem with people that only sing......that was meant to be sarcastic.....karaoke is and will be my only stage from which to fulfill my desire to preform....contest are just upping the anti......American Idol and such shows are age discriminatory period....I don't even watch them anymore......

I hope your venture works out well for you.......don't let a few nay sayers dissuade you from you charted course......

" could you adjust the levels on that for me...a little pink light please.....don't tether me with a short cord......do I look OK......what do you mean I can't use my own disc???......." ...all lines I've heard and used.....

Contests are a good thing, but not in a bar setting.  Too many cry babies.   They should be held in auditoriums.  With paid seating, entry fees, official judges and no alcohol.  If I want to see a singing competition I don't want to hear a bunch of drunk wiener heads that can't carry a tune in a bucket, thinking that they are better than Elvis.  Also, it's not fair to put the bar owners income in jeopardy.   Think about it, if you are a serious singer entering a serious competition you would have to be nuts to think it's going to happen in a bar.    American Idol, bar or auditorium?   The defense rests.

Bigdog - I like that thought. If your going to have a karaoke contest don't do it in a bar. Woo hoo I like it!

I have participated in the contests outside the bar.......those with a nice entry fee and paid seating.....they are still a place where the primadonnas show up and feelings get hurt.......it's all the same......as for the alcohol issue......well I come from the Hank Williams School Of Singing/Drinking......and I never even thought I'd ever be discovered in a bar or else where.....remember I'm too "Old".....but I love what I do....have a little following.....and it's as close to stardom I'll ever see.....

here's a question..... what makes a singer professional?.......if it's being compensated for what your doing, then I'm professional....if you count free drinks, contest winnings and the numerous honky tonk angles I've taken home over the years (which I have retired from, but still enjoy the attention).....I used to hear it said that the girls like the boys in the band.....then I found out with karaoke I didn't need a band...lol...... LOL

I've sang in bars. night clubs, honky tonks, auditoriums, picnics, outside, inside, churches and anywhere someone would listen.....contests are for competitors and if ya can't stand the pressure don't compete....and if you loose then practice more and try again.......

one year my exwife and I made about $4,000.00 competing in contests....it a long way toward paying for new discs, stage clothes and drinks....contests are fun if you like to compete, but there not a place for people who just want stroked...

Singing for some pin money, local recognition, your ego or bar bragging rights is one thing.   Some of these people think they are going to be DISCOVERED.    A karaoke bar is as good a place as any to get crowd exposure and live singing experience.   You have to go to Nashville, Hollywood or NY if you want to have a very small shot at fame.   You gotta live it daily, not just once a week.     So tell me contest enterers.    What do you expect to happen from winning a karaoke contest in the middle of a cow pasture or a shot and a beer town?   It's a local contest with no ties to anything.    Not making fun, just making a point.

I kind of like the cow pasture thing......and to win in a mom and pop, pays for a few nights of singing ( or did I mean sinning ).....whatever......oh and I'm a shot and a beer kind of guy......
