Excluding the Chaos theory, it may be fun, but I guess the real message, besides dancing plushies (which are more fun than a restatement of overrated submissions) is if there is to be a rating system, it needs some teeth, and while this is a fun place,
critique is critique.

We have new fish come in the lake, put up subs, and we have a quandry. A popular Karaoke site, is a fun Karaoke site, and it is no fun to be told your sub is not wonderful. Like American Idol, there will be some that are - well normal is a good word. A kind word. And that is all fine and good as long as they are not put up for critique. Critique is not synonomous with only nice good fluffy huggy comments.

Honestly, I have heard people who have noted they cannot trust people to give them a fair and useful critique and have to PM to get something honest. My point is there should possibly be a button for a negative critique, because we can all see after a year that handling the idea that a sub is not as terrific as the subber may feel it is, is not easy, even though it is is stressed over and over.. if you won't want negative comments don't put things up for "C" just sub them for fun.

And the WORST part of this. Has always been the 10. We have people who average 10s that are not 10s. And it only takes a single 9 to knock them down - and no one wants to be the evil one to do so. It creates "bad feelings", people leave the showcase, or weep.

Well, question is.. how do you deal with the fact people want to beam with pride at 10s and be popular and liked and happy. Other Karaoke places have eliminated rating. But American Idol loves it. And we sure are not AI. I mean there really is no effort to demean or hurt people here in critiquing their subs. There have been a few who are out of here like in a flash who are abusive or cruel.

It is like a rising tide you see. Things get moderately real and then all of sudden you have stuff getting rated 10s that are 7s or 6s. And then someone comes back and rates them honestly, and then - this is certainly not news.. I mean I started the first Snipe comment thread - they track them down and give them 1s.

Well, let's be real. Except for a cat in heat or someone in torture, I have never heard a 1 on here. Hardly any 3s.

As long as there is rating, there will be a debate on the equity of it.

Perfect. Well, for the sake of niceness, we can all bend it a bit, although there are subs I have heard that are 10s. Yet, let us be real. No one, (except for ML or a few singers on here who are just consistently excellent) can rack up all 10s. It just isn't real.

I have enjoyed the plushie posts on this thread though. Nice to see Crystal, Gilly, and the enduring Karaoke chickens coming out of lurk land.

So.....when another person (can't remember which lady it was) didn't like the rankings or mean critiques here, she started her own SS-like site and it is very successful (KSK).  So if you don't like it why not start your own SS-like site? You can make your own rules.  People must be brutally honest.  Critiques must be honest or not given at all.  Forums will be brutally honest.  Hurt feelings? Well, tough.

You can also have rankings or critique colums where people can check off if you are out of tune, not feeling it.

I'm not kidding. I would go to a place like that. I don't mind critique as long as people are expecting it and won't complain about getting their feelings hurt. If they do, you just say "read the rules" and they will know.

I am not kidding....go start one!! And stop complaining here about it Seriously, I don't care if you complain or not but it just seems that if you don't like the way it is here, you can start your own, just like what's-her-name did.
