I'm new the the Karaoke scene however have been using laptops for 8 years as full-time entertainer playing MIDI sequences with external sound modules, guitar processors, harmony michines and lights.  It's common knowledge amongst many of us in the "live" arena that Dell laptops are very hummm, distortion loud and unuseable for direct output.  We have tried using the mini plug output for break music, either mp3's on the HD, CD internal with mp3's, or to an external CD player or mp3 device.  Compaq and HP are most common for reliable use on stage.
Santa brough me an HP, 100 gig HD, all necessary ports for Karaoke application.
Still searching for the best software for stage Karaoke shows.  Copy DVD's, play lists, etc.  Appreciate any input from you Pros on themost relaible, versitle, friendls software available.
Thank you,
Tunedude

PCDJ recommends the use of an external soundcard so you can seperate the 2 or 3 players if you have KJ.  I personally have not used an external yet, but would like to in the future.

Been using laptop for over three years now.  I go straight from the ear phone connection to my mixer.  I couldn't ask for a better sound.  Not really sure why an external card would be recommended.

So to use a mixer with my laptop I connect the headphone to the input on the mixer then output to my home theatre? I have the UB802 behrenger.

Im trying to figure out how to get the mics working.

Thanks

Mic to channel 1 or 2 of your 802. But it has no efx for voc. You may want to get this if you want some efx on the vox  http://www.behringer.com/UB1002FX/index.cfm?lang=ENG

Ordered Lap Top today should be here by the 16th.

To all KJS using Laptops - Do you all use an EXTERNAL sound device ?
Or do you use the internal soundcard?

I use PCDJ/KJ and they reccomend using an external usb sound card.
I'm sure an external device will give a better sound but I want to ask
you Pro's already using laptops?

When I first got my Dell, it did have the HUM you are all speaking of when running of AC power.  To eliminate I used a 79 cent ground plug elimanotor dongle....those little grey things that isolate the ground plug on the power pack...and the hum went away.

For about 3  months I used the built in sound via the headphone jack.  I was getting upset with some bass distortion, so I swithced to a SoundBlaster MP3+ Usb sound card ($15-20 on Ebayhttp://www.soundblaster.com/products/MP3+/  ).  My god A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!  I trided the Audigy ZS2 PCMIA (http://www.soundblaster.com/products/pr ... duct=10769 )card, but IMHO the SB MP3+ sounded just as good if not better.
