Brand new to this stuff.

I'm going to buy some disks online, but I see that not all cdg's are created equal.  I'm hearing that I could end up with generic music, bad recordings, etc. and I can't return them.

Is there a Label I should stay away from or one I should rely on.  A trustworthy web site.  I was looking at karaoke.com.

Sound Choice is the preferred label, and here's some reading material

Even within the same label, some songs are great whereas others are awful.  I bought an older disc from Sound Choice that is one of the worst I've bought.  I also got the "Supercore 2005" starter pack and found most of the modern backings to be pretty accurate, yet others in the same genre and on the same CD to sound cheesy.  They're not good at standards, in my opinion.  The BEST way is to preview the song in-store or online.  Believe it or not, WalMart.com sells CD-Gs (and in-store) and with theirs you can preview half of the songs, I think.  They also have the cheapest prices you'll find and a pretty big selection.  Go to Walmart.com and click on the music tab, then "CD store" and "Karaoke" in the left navigation panel.

Hope this helps!  Welcome to the world that is karaoke!!  :)

Hi, I have lots of different named discs.  For older country I like the SAVA series. For newer stuff either Sound Choice of Pop Hits Monthly.  Depends on your tastes.

i am relatively new to cdg world and cannot make real informed decisions on software, but i must say that i did purchase a set of SGB for cheap bucks off from ebay which gave me a pretty good taste of their selection. many of the tracks were ok but some sounded really nasty(Shania in a tin can with cheap sunglasses). I have a billy idol cdg from zoom and i am really impressed with that organization.  I also just purchased a paul mccartney cdg from england, which the brand is not listed but that too was fab. i need to check out soundchoice. the one legend cdg i picked up was inconsistenty, with a lot of treble energy and brashness from it when i recorded the vocal over the backing track. i had to eq the song on digidesign protools le to get a better sounding recording. my least favorite purchases have been backstage. The Hendrix cdg was really, really nasty, missing many of the guitar parts. Luckily I am going to use that disc to overlay the guitar parts on, and i can use it for live performances using an amp and my trusty strats. however their eagles and doors cdg were pretty accurate, with good eq.  I'm glad that i picked up on this link because i was about to purchase some sunfly and they ain't cheap.

Ya gotta remember that many CD+G studios hire musicians who are great at many things and not so good at some things.

Then they set these guys up in a 9-5 mon-fri environ where their job is to pump out accurate sounding background music.....And like any other 9-5 job, the faster they do it, the better.....If then the accuracy of a few songs suffer, then it suffers, and as long as the bottom line isn't effected everyone is happy.

That said, you can expect that no single disc maker will ever produce 100% perfect tracks that sound exactly like the original.....Some however, do manage to get the Lion's share right.....but as you will discover, it also depends on the type of music and the era of same.....Yep, SGB will produce one style/era best and SC or CB will do the same with a different style/era of music, but none of them do all of it perfectly....Therefore, I cannot suggest any of them are better overall that the other.

Once you get your basic library established, you should consider asking about individual songs and who has the best cut.....That's what I do.

Not entirely true. Most CDG recordings are done by volunteer mucisians, most certainly not 9 to 5-er's.

And many cheaper brands are done by a single (to a few) people & a Midi sequencer.
