hi everyone  i am new to the site and in many ways to the world of karaoke. however i do have a small recording studio in fl. i run analog on  tascam ms16, from a soundcraft spirit studio then from the deck to the pc with 16 analog ins to protools le. what i am trying to figure out is which way to turn in trying to build a karaoke system.  I have good comp. of live music and my sound reinforcement needs and wants, having played live for many years. now what i would like to do is come up with a system to do prerecorded performances with live vocals. i guess the meat of my inquiry is whether to go computer based or deck based. i have been toying with the idea of a vocopro 8000 or 4000 deck, but i ran across this usb attachment called a dac2, which looks very similar to the control unit of a two piece deck like with the vocopro 8000 or cdn25+g.  does anyone have any experience with either? i know that the dac2 works with the same companies software which i think is similar to pcdj. if i am not greatly mistaken it is the same company. i also want to be able to use this with other vocalists, especially in the studio and need to have the graphics instead of printing out lyrics for the songs. my s6tudio is becoming paper jammed and i have only been doing this new recording technique for two or three weeks. what i have been doing is recording my own original music for which i do everything. i am going this new route as i don't want to have to spend excess energy on recording cover songs. could y'all give me suggestions on which way to proceed, including what you think of the vocopro mixers, like the kjm 7000 or 8000.  thanks, :drums:  phil

I would forget anything Vocopro.

Personally I would use a decent CD+G player thru a quality live sound mixer/desk like your soundcraft studio and  a PA for karaoke performances....Of course you can  add a computer to store and play the selections thru the PA if you include the proper sound/video cards.

If I understood you correctly, you want karaoke graphics to display on a TV monitor, but plan to use your recorded music in the background and then maybe record it all as a final mix....Is that correct?

If it is, then you want software that will allow you to compose your own graphics. I believe MTU makes a program that should work for you.

The DAC2 is not capable of displaying graphics. It will store and play tons of music files, but not graphics. You are better off using a modified PC or laptop for that. Folks here can help you assemble a super duper computer that would serve you well both for karaoke and home recording and DJing.

thanks, i have been poking around a bit more and have found the mtu programs from  which i downloaded a trial. That looks like it will be something i am going to pursue for now. I can go ahead an use the digidesign interface with the computer as it will give me plenty of audio assignments that i need. i can patch that into a smaller mixer instead of lugging around the soundcraft. the plan is to invest in building a computer that will be designed to get the max. out of the digidesign. what i am using now is good but it does not have enuf processing speed for me. I have a techie friend that is going to help put that together. the dac would work for me as i primarily will be using audio for backing tracks, for which i would have memorized the lyrics. that comes from being a semi pro performer. so that is no problem. thanks. phil

Yep, the DAC2 will work for you seeing as how you can remember the lyrics, but didn't you say in your original post that you didn't want any more paper clutter in your studio cause the other vocalists needed printed lyrics?
