I need some help with getting rid of feedback. People move around  with the mic and I almost lost a speaker last night. Some of the units I've looked at require a sound man to operate, need something simple to use.

Get the people NOT to move or try different speaker placements.  dbx makes a pretty decent feedback eliminator as does Sabine.  Stay away from the Behringer - it's junk.  Peavey makes one that is so so.  What these do is sense for feedback & automatically pulls those tiny frequencies without any major change in the overall tone.

Some of the better units "learn" as the night progresses...you can save the settings as a preset for the times you return to that venue providing you set up exactly the same as last time.

If you are getting the feedback thru the main speakers, then you either have them set up improperly or your singers are really out of bounds when on stage....It might also be due to poor room acustics or too much gain thru the mic strip....You also need to use only quality dynamic mics that offer a tight polar pattern.

Never allow a singer to move in front of a main speaker with the mic!...So place the mains out front and to each side of the stage and never pivot a speaker so the singer can hear it....That's what floor monitors are for.

If you do use floor monitors, then place them on the floor directly in front of the singer's position and angled upwards where the speaker axis is in direct line with the singers head....If placed so, then while singing the mic is automatically held to where the butt is pointing at the monitor and the mic rejects everything from that direction.

If you discover that in order to elimanite feedback you have to make lots of broad EQ cuts, then you need to reexamine your setup and do your part to prevent the problem.

Then, after all the above, make sure to ride the master sliders (keep your fingers on them ready to cut) whenever a singer starts to get out of the box.
