We have such a system built, and are going to show it at NAMM to karaoke companies to see if we can find a few buyers.
So of course, i'd subscribe to it in a heartbeat.
Ideally, you'd setup a jukebox, let the customers buy the songs for your show with some markup ($5 is peanuts when someone really has to sing that song, it's as cheap as a drink) Karaoke company makes $2.50, you make $2.50. Gee, I wonder who's working on such a system.
You'd have to provide your own hardware, and broadband. That goes back into what I was saying about a community effort for the sake of the venue.

Which is smarter? Just sticking to making/selling karaoke, while people all over the world create software FOR FREE that helps you sell it, or trying to compete with them and keeping it a closed loop while you blow your money into an industry (software) that you(the karaoke manu) knows nothing about? -me

Always gonna need a jock though, people mic steal, people try and sing out of order, the sound needs adjusting throughout the night, something needs to be put on in case of dead air, and finally, the jock needs to co-ordinate the community.

dance music being played
just curious if you mean dance music being played as a buffer or dance music in general? i usually play some form of music (dance, rap, country and sometimes even sound clips from movies) while waiting for the next singer to make their way to the stage.
on topic, i have intro music for my regular singers. something they pick out. one uses Dexies Midnight Runners' "Come On Eileen" (can you guess her name?), another uses "Lord Loves a Drinkin' Man" by Kevin Fowler. This not only makes things unique for my show, but it helps the singer know that it is their turn to sing. they don't always hear me call their name to sing but they ALWAYS hear their intro song.

We don't play buffer or dance music but this is a great idea & one I hadn't heard of before..

Well to start being able to record and sell my recordings would be great. If i could record them live with the crowd being taped as well and then later add more vocals and clean up the original i would be happy to keep on doing that as long as at least my family and friends bought some.
I think the future of KJ's will include production of product for it's singers.

I think the problem lies not with the "filler" stuff, but those that will play full dance songs. It's one reason I finally broke with my ex partner Dave... because he didn't want to do non-stop karaoke. Now the venue was used to it, and agree with him... I didn't mind. Because I felt I was right.
We BOTH were.

[font=Comic Sans MS]Yes, I've been to shows where "filler" or "bumper" music is played, we just don't do it at our shows and we're ALL right! LOL
