Ive just figured out how to make longer songs fit to post on SS.

Using Audactiy song editing program:

1. They must be reduced to less than 3 min 15 sec at 44100kbs rate to meet the less than 3MB bandwidth limit. Has to be at 44100 rate otherwise it sounds like your either singing in a bathtub or your a chipmunk

2. Have to highlight then delete all lenghthly intros and outros and cut out bridges as neccessary to get them down to 3. 15

3. Have to separate and then delete one of the tracks(top or bottom)

4. Have to select MONO mode

5. Have to select and insert FADE IN and then FADE OUT

All easily enough done but you have to be ruthless in the chopping out of song sections and it ends up really detracting from the enjoyment of the song not having lengthly instrumental sections. But  I do what I must.

There is no real need to chopped off too much of the intro. And what if the song is still more than 3:15 long.
Just choose the correct bitrate when converting to mp3. Here is an example

A song 'Angle' is 4:15 long and is 44.1mb stereo at 16/44.1

mp3 stereo at cbr

320kbps  will be 10mb ...the best you can get
256          its     7.8mb
224          its     6.8mb
192          its     5.8mb
128          its     3.9mb
112          its     3.4mb
96            its     2.9mb  which is within the limit for upload.

A better way is to use the variable bitrate option; this give a better sound quality at any given bitrate. Mono mp3 track will not half the file size; it will be reduced it but not much.
Joint stereo, variable bitrate  will save more space with the less sound degradation

It is always a good idea to remove some of the intro of a very long song and cut off the outro. Use fade in for intro and fade out for outro.

I use this mp3 converter http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm which is free and very easy to use.

Where posible , try not to go down below 96kbps, The sound just isn't good even thru' a pc monitors. A good bitrate to aim for is 128kbps.

Good luck and happy singin'
