Judging folks based on some criteria you decide is not what karaoke is, maybe american idol, but not karaoke.

Which is smarter? Just sticking to making/selling karaoke, while people all over the world create software FOR FREE that helps you sell it, or trying to compete with them and keeping it a closed loop while you blow your money into an industry (software) that you(the karaoke manu) knows nothing about?

Ok, Opinions are like...... yeah you know the rest, but I respect yours, however off I feel it is.  First of all, it wouldn't be criteria that I decide.  We'd all decide, and the only reason I could even think it would come CLOSE to American Idol is the simon character you represent.  Not all of it would be for vocal talent at all. I personally think that it takes a lot of courage to sub some genre you've never tried before or for a man to sing "like a virgin"  It's not a competition.... it's  recognition.  For the people who are always commenting and giving opinions that both motivate and help the people on the showcase; and for the people who take the time to help out newbies, for the original people who come up with hilarious parodies, or the BRAVE people who sub their bloopers.  There can be some serious categories but like I said this would just be for fun and to let people who really amaze us be recognized.  But if you feel that it's not the way to go then I respect that.

I think it sounds like fun. Although as you brought up, feelings will probably be hurt, but if anyone who enters can keep in mind that it is only for fun and not take things so seriously then it would be cool. And lets face it, I don't think that karaoke is about the people who can sing, but about the people who aren't as good but have the testicular fortitude to sing in public or sub to a site anyway. Sounds like fun..............Timbo
