Understood.  But I guess with the copying issue under such watchful and legal eye right now, they feel they have to take a stance of protecting the karaoke recording companies so they don't find themseleves being shut down.

When I first started in karaoke I used a Sony 400 player.  I used MTU's Micro Studio program to make copies of my originals.  And put my copies in my player.  I know there is much discussion as to wether THAT is even legal.  But my stance is is that as long as I can prove I own and have the originals I should be able to use my copies and save the originals at home.

Now that I use computer, as I still get my originals which 99% are CB & SC, I buy from dealers on Ebay.  I then take the disc and compy what songs I want into my desktop computer; when I have aprroximately 20 new songs ready, I burn them to a compiled disc and then load that into my computer.  So I have over 700 original CDGS and then I currently have 455 compiled discs that contain almost 9200 songs..  If and when I find a different version of a song that I like better than the one I have, I reburn my compiled disc and then reload that to the laptop.

Sorry for getting off topic with the CAVS.

Kelly

you sound a lot like me... I do the same, except on computer, I put the entire disc on, rather than do a custom disc...

But with my songbook library, I edit that, so my disc library looks fractured! heheheh I keep the entire master library on an excel file!

If something happened to MTU financially and they went out of business it would certianly be a shame but it would not affect how I run my shows. I would still have a error free working copy of Hoster and would still be in business.

However if I was forced to switch programs I have all of my songs on a 400gig Hard Drive in CDG format. These files can easily be converted to whatever format I wish.

As for CAV's (original thread subject) My opinion is that their earlier units had overheating problems w/HD(no longer a problem in JB199) and some units were preloaded (legally) from the factory with Master Licenses  from the various mfg's.  But there are hundreds if not thousands of their units out there that have been sold by them to independents that in turn load 10K to 30K songs on them with no licensing arrangements then resell them on Ebay or Internet. I consider this piracy.

Is Cav's shady I don't think so, but they sure have messed up the market by marketing them to shady individuals (by that I mean they guys that purchased direct and loaded the illegal songs on them and then marketed them to the end user). This sometimes happens when you do not use established and respected channels of distribution. I'm sure many of these pirates "cut a fat hog" during this selling spree
Ebay caught on and you do not see them there anymore.
