But again, if you create a community and are in control of it, you are not replacable.

I pay for everything on the 7 Bamboo website, streaming video and equipment costs aside, running the community website is very very cheap.

Part of my contract with 7 Bamboo is because I pay for the web stuff, I own it.  If they fire me, they have no legal grounds on which to demand I relinquish the domain or the content of the site.

If I was fired tomorrow, there would be a huge outpouring of support from our patrons.  Not to mention, i'd probably just shut the site down to spite them.  Luckily I don't think it will ever come to that, my bosses appriciate the work and know what would happen if they crossed me.

I don't think my skills in computers gives me much of an advantage over any other KJ though.  Like I keep hinting to everyone, webguru could probably host a forum/website/domain for your venue for like $15@month.  If someone else can set it up for you, then my skills have no advantage over anyone else.

You can be irreplacable.  You just have to set things up so you are.

GOOD position, yes, IRREPLACEABLE, perhaps debatable.  What is stopping them from hiring a web designer and making a new site?  Or even trying their hand at their own?  I'm not much of a web designer, yet I still run a site that looks pretty good using some free services on the net (Frontpage works wonders for me).

I commend you though, for putting yourself in a very comfortable position.  A lot of us others can't do that.

Because I legally own all web media rights to the 7 Bamboo.

Most club owners don't realize the potential community involved in a web site for their venue.  A lot of them are really old fashioned, set in their ways "I've been running this club before the web, and i'll be running it after the web"

It's this attitude that you can take advantage of to cement yourself there.

You offer a free website, hosting, in exchange for all web rights to the venue, and waive their responsibility for any bills that might arrise from the website.  Tell them you're doing this so you can protect them, and that you will be responsible for everything.

Also let them know you will be putting advertising on the site to recoup costs, which is another reason you need the web rights.  You need to be able to protect any venue related content from copycats.

Club owners care about 2 things.. Money, and Liability.  There are not many that would say no to a deal that both brings them money, and relieves them of the liability.

Which is smarter? Just sticking to making/selling karaoke, while people all over the world create software FOR FREE that helps you sell it, or trying to compete with them and keeping it a closed loop while you blow your money into an industry (software) that you(the karaoke manu) knows nothing about?
