I've got 1200 ft of fencing materials piled up in the yard awaiting the guy to come drill all the post holes.....It's mid July here in Louisiana and already hitting 95 degrees everyday....I've got two pallets of 80LB bags of concrete to mix by hand and God Knows how many posts to drive and set.....I'm 51 years old and tired just thinking about it.

The wife finally won me over and bought two horses and a horse trailer....Trouble is, we ain't got no fence or barn yet, so I'm busting my butt and my wallet trying to get it all done.

Last week I was chasing a white stallion down the hwy in front of my house when he got away from me.......I'm too old for this.

He's in a rented pasture till I get the fence up and I'm adding a round pen just for him and his attitude....I'm thinking I need to put the wife in there first tho....

I swear, if she brings another horse home before this place is fenced, I'll kill her!

Who here does horses?......Wait, who here does fences? LOL!

You can sell the horses but you can't sell your wife. Well I wish I could sell mine sometimes. Yeah they will drive you crazy, and spend your money, but all in all my wife takes good care of me and I love her very much. I'm sure it's worth the aggervation in the end. I make sure to take out in trade with her when her crazy ideas make more work than it actually worth for me.

Well over in the "no boys allowed thread", this novice poster named "eben" said he had nice calves.  I suppose he is a farm boy and might know somehting about fences :)

And in the same thread as mentioned above (see picture of Allstar) I think he may have plenty of room for your Horses.......

For now just start wispering to them :)

Horse whispering?....LOL...Maybe I'll sing to them.

Seriously....They call it horse whispering cause it's all body language when dealing with horses....you watch them and they watch you....and in that way you both scream at each other....you gotta watch their feet, ears and nose and hindquarters...They watch your eyes, hands and posture.

Well all the post holes are drilled....Now I gotta get out there and set 60 wood posts in concrete and drive 100 T posts, string wire and hang gates....It's too danged hot to even think about it.

Been teaching the wife to give them shots....She sure was squemish at first, but she's got it down now.

The first time she tries to bring one in the house, they both sleep in the barn.

I'm guessing that if I ever did a horse, I surely wouldn't be on here telling that story.   :reddevil:

Oh MY you people!  Just shameless!  Horses are wonderfully smart critters, but I'd never want to try tending them constantly.  My father had a family farm when I was growing up, so I've slopped some hogs and milked and all, not to mention stall cleaning.  You really have to want to do it to take on that kind of work.

I remember breaking a trail to the barn in snow waist high to take care of those animals!  I wish you luck!

Slopped some hogs.

Does that mean you had an accident while riding on the back of a Harley?

This post is out of hand.  Don't try to reign it back in.  It's pointless.

Whew!......................They are a lot of work and expense.

But they offer big rewards!

Ok, the fence is completed and the horses have been turned out for a week now and I have been working with them all day every day.

I'm ruined....I have found my passion.

When i was 15 and 16 i worked summers at a showhorse farm in Medford long island new york. The cash money was good but the work was hard. I used to get there in the wee hours and muck stalls and water the horses. They had 50+ show horses and a seperate barn with minature ponies and some other assorted horses.

I still remember some of the mean horses would start kicking thier stalls hard as soon as they saw me. Then when i entered thier stall they played a game of cat and mouse to try and gain an angle to kick me as i mucked thier stall. My trick was to stay side nose to side nose with them, As they moved i moved to match noses.

Still remember keeping from letting the watering hose touch the water in the buckets as to prevent spread of disease among the horses.

The minature ponies were so calm and cool and had the demeaner of kind dogs, I always liked them.
