Hey Everybody! :wave:
Yeah, yeah, yeah, just another newbie who is extremely taken aback by this great site (of which I discovered quite by accident and with the help of dogpile.com).
[highlight=tomato]But, I'm sure glad I'm here now![/highlight] :D
Real quick, I've only been performing on stage--live Broadway-type shows, talent competitions, and the like for about three or four years now--but spent a lot of time before that just singing, singing, singing to the radio, my record player (Yes! I am that "mature"--don't care much for the word old), cassette tape player and CD unit that I just got installed in our little Toyota Corolla not too long ago.
My specialty--or passion, if you will--is to perform anything from just about anything surrounding old-Broadway (Annie Get Your Gun, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, you name it), Country-Western, and "Crooner" tunes (sung by the likes of Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., etc., etc., etc.).
I only wish I would have known about Karaokefest 2005 (with the finals at Knott's Berry Farm) come this May 22. Gosh! I would have loved to have competed for this honor to sing at one of my favorite entertainment venues in Southern Cal and--with a lot of hard work and great fan support--maybe even win the adult male vocalist title (after all, Heck! You never know, right?!).
But, I can take consolation in the fact that I have recently earned a spot in the Adult Vocalist category and compete in Laughlin, Nevada, at the National Grand Finals of Star Quest USA (produced and run by Griffin Entertainment).
You can check them out and even somewhere (under the listing of "qualifiers," I believe) on the site find my name (Rick Radecki) at [glow=gold]

And, the good news is that, even though you might have missed the deadline to participate in any way with Karaokefest at Knott's, there's STILL time to compete at a Star Quest USA contest near you! And, No! I'm not at all a paid spokesperson or anything like that for Star Quest USA, but I have been--as a finalist for their national grand competition in Laughlin come July 28-31--showcasing my "stuff" (mostly country, and now more showtunes, too) over the past several months, and I get another chance or two or three or four to do more of the same between now and the end of July--where, I hope, I perform well enough with my two song selections and performances to bring home my first national title in the adult vocalist category.
Anyway, good luck to all of you fortunate enough to be a part of Karaokefest 2005, and I would highly encourage anybody--that is, once Karaokefest 2005 is archived--to check out [glow=orange]
http://www.rick.starquestusa.com[/glow] and--what the heck!--sign up for a chance to win all kinds of neat prizes.
Thanks, again, for such a neat site to get together with other folks who have a "labor of love" for singing and for making others feel their passion, too.
All the best to you all!
