OK guys here is the problem, when i first started recording i didn't have this prob so i don't know where it came from. when i try to record i import a mp3 file to use as my backup right, then i click on the record tab for the next track to record my vocals, but when i go to editting screen the music is recorded with my vocals so i can't change the volume or anything , it would just mess up. how do i get my proggy or whatever to just record my vocals only on a seperate track? like i said i could do this no problem when i first started doing it, but now it won't record without the music as well.  :(

You did not say what recording software you are using; that will help a lot in answering your question.
But it look like you are recording on 'what u hear' and not on mic.Try going to your soundcard controler and change that seting. If you are using onboard soundcard the rightclick the vol control at the rightbottom of your screen. If you use sbl go to mixer

If I read you right the problem seem to be soundcard related. Change your recording setting to mic. To do this; go to> start> program>accessories>entertenment>vol control and select mic. If you do not see mic in one of the option, move your curser to the top and clik option>properties>adjust vol for> dot the recording option and it will bring up and other window after you press ok. Tick the mic option.
If you have SBL as your soundcard goto mixer and at the rec penal click the pulldown symbol( a triangle that point downward) and choose mic.
I hope this help.

what soundcard do you have? This seem like a soundcard setting to 'what u hear' for recording when it should be 'mic' ;and not recording software related. And am not sure if  default is for mic. Most soundcards will have more than one source of recording imput ie mic, wav., midi, etc so its up to you to choose which one you are using.

Are you sure that you follow the steps above? pm me if you still have prob.
