Hi.

Does JVC make a Karaoke player that supports CD-G and DVD. I want the option to play music videos and Karaoke discs on one unit.

If not, I guess I could get a video switcher.

you all seem to dislike Vocopro, so I'm steering away from it. and I like JVC products.

What about Pioneer?

Help

Pioneer is good, but expensive.  JVC does not make one that does DVD & CDG to date.  Look at the RSQ NEO E-500.  $220 http://www.acekaraoke.com/rsq-neo-g-e50 ... layer.html

Is it a decent player or should I go with the Pioneer?

or......

Maybe  1 RSQ NEO-E500  and 1 JVC MV 303 because I'll probably have to get a backup anyway

and any suggestions on mixers that'll work with these units?

Jim.

The RSQ 505 that Matt speaks of is a good player but has since been discontinued, if you can find one, go for it.  The E-500 is a newer replacement version of it.

Mixer, Mackie DFX-12.

I looked at the Mackie mixer you suggested.

The place where we are playing Karaoke, already has a house system set-up that is used for live bands.

If the house system were set up for the vocalists, and the microphones set up through the "house" mixer. Will a Karaoke mixer be necessary?

I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, but I'm used to DJ'ing where everything runs through a mixer.

Do you even NEED a mixer for a Karaoke unit?

Do you NEED a karaoke mixer, no - not at all if you want a less than sub par sound, you can just run your mics through the players.  If you want a more professional sound, YES you will need a mixer of some sort.  If you run everything through the house PA mixer then you wouldn't need to purchase a mixer, however, if there is a picky sound guy that runs that board, you may run into some hassles & possibly sabatoge of your sound.  It's better to get your own equipment to some degree.

Even in karaoke, everything still runs through the mixer.  Only difference is you are now mixing "live" vocals on top of canned music.

I looked at the Mackie mixer online again.

Looks great for production work and live sound reinforcement.

However, I noticed by looking at close up photos, that it doesn't seem to have a key changer for the vocalists.

Am I corrrect on this, and should I be looking for a mixer that supports this function.

Jim.

The JVC/RSQ & Pioneer players HAVE the key changers built in, no need to have it on the mixer as well.
