For Karaokefest: ATTENTION PROMOTERS!!! have a competition where the judges MUST sing... if this comp is soooooo intune... all i hear is michael saying how great is. I thought TALENTQUEST WAS TOO how evil...
I know that Karaokefest is a honest competition with a great showing... but lets post those scores and how EVERY entrant finished ONLINE...huh?
atleast from first to finish everybody gets some recognision for trying.
And tell me this... why would someone like me who knows about thousand singers nationwide send any of them to california when #1 there is a competing event the same weekend here in nashville which I have no part of or desire to be there, #2 you got people like michael with egos as big as the planet pluto that will compete and because they are good kj's in a large market... I can accept a good kj who has won an award any day but don't pay your dues getting there forget it. I have won awards myself but i'm not stuffing them in people's faces... I'D RATHER BE JUDGED BY SIMON ON AI.... I'm sorry I needed to vent a little...
Sing safe..
Brian

I think that the basic premise of having the other contestants being the judges has a definite potential for undermining the fairness of the contest and turning it into a popularity contest rather than being based on merit (not saying that it will, but a real possibility exists). Also, since the other contestants have something at stake they may vote according to who they would rather compete against. Another thing, a tangible judging system would not exist unless the judging panel were the same in all cases and if a uniform judging criteria were used regardles of what song is being sung-- this would be especially true to to eliminate bias based on venue. A case in point, a song that may do well at a family-oriented restaurant may not do well at say a Country and Western bar and therefore be shot down simply because it is not accepted there-- in other words, a song should not be penalized simply because it doesn't fit the venue at where its being sung.

As a contestant last year, I felt to bias of "The Regulars".
Now don't get me wrong here, I never expected to get to the Queen, but the audience was padded so heavily with "friends", family" and such, I knew an old guy like me wouldn't get a vote.
Now it is true that I'd not sung at these venues before, and they didn't know me, but... come on. Not a vote?
Not possible.
(Unless you've heard me sing.)
I'll go again this year if I can kick this bad case of SARS.
Just sayin'
Jerry

Hey, Jerry - What song did you sing? I can't remember you from your picture - and...after all, it has been a year.

Hey, I'm all for it, Mike! My cold is almost all out of my chest and JD is almost over his SARS! So - Mike's in the Valley, JD's in Hollyweird and I'm in Pasadena. Is there somewhere we can go on a Friday or Saturday that's close to all? I'm only familiar with my neck of the woods with Club S. Would anyone else care to join us?

Linda
It has been a year, and I'm not sure, but I've been known to do Piano Man
I sang at Gingers on Friday, (no luck), and somewhere in Marina Del Ray.
No luck there either.
I just showed up to see what it was all about anyway.
(The hat in my avitar pic is the Karaoke Fest 2002 hat)
So I guess I did "get" to the Queen.
But I just listened.
Yes, let's get together.
Michael owes me a beer anyway.
Let me know where / when. I'll be in Vegas again from this Sunday through next Friday. (Networld-Interop)
After that, I'm buyin'.
Jerry

Hey, Jerry,
I'm all for getting together this weekend or after you come back. I can only go out on a Friday or Saturday night though. A Sunday afternoon would be ok, too! Let's see how free Mike's schedule is...Mike, are you watching?
