I was correctly reminded that I mean voice "gravel"

Things to do list: Take refresher engris course

I don't know about this, yet generally people I know that have had the gravel quality to their voice have been smokers, and husky people. Whether weight has ANYTHING to do with it or not, I have NO idea. I suppose the quality comes from putting a strain on the vocal chords.

I learned a lesson today again, that I assumed I'd already learned. This is pertaining to when you SHOULDN'T critique, or nitpick on a persons submission. I listened to a submission on a laptop, (and based on the systems inability to handle the separation of music, and vocals) I determined the voice at times was stepping on the instrumentals. Slight tweaking was needed.

I listened to the same song on my desktop system with a subwoofer, and four speakers. I was wrong. Balance sounded fine.

LOL - I listen to everyone on my laptop so when I tell ya you sound GREAT then you must have really sounded KICK BOOTY!! (great is a word I reserve for the songs I really think sounded top notch)

Headphones make a big difference too, I have a cruddy pair of headphones and I know they throw off the sound, but I'll fix that this weekend when I go to get new cables for my setup (YAY - I get to go to the city *hick hick*)

I'm thinkin I'll also get a nice set of speakers to hook up to my laptop's new sound card and then I'll be in style!

Not only do i ONLY listen to everyone on my laptop, but, i only record on my laptop, mix on the laptop, etc etc.

Mind ya, I have an ibook.....:)

And, you all sound great:) Ok, i hope I sound better on something else:)

however, I only listen on my extra set of ipod headphones, which have a great sound, but, seem to throw off the sound of male singers... But, i am getting new ones, so, no big deal:)

babblebabble

Anyone ever burned their subs on a cd and listened to elsewhere??

Cause I did- and my gosh- horrible results!!

My hubby wanted me to put some songs on a cd for his truck (silly guy.....) before I deleted them off the computer. So I did. And these are songs that I think I did my best mixing jobs on. I usually listen to them without my bass speaker on..... cause I know alot of folks don't use one, and I "think" you get a truer sound of the recording with the bass speaker off. Any-who..... these songs all sounded to be good mixes to me. (some of my better anyhow) Any that were older and had vocals too loud or something I did not put on the cd.

And in his truck.... which has a pretty decent sound system.... they sound awful. Like I recorded them on a little ol' tape recorder or something. They sound ok in my house stereo (which is a cheapo but has really nice speakers).

But it leaves me wondering..... is it just my cheap computer speakers that make me think my recordings sound mixed ok?? I mean- what the heck must you all be hearing from my subs? Because a vehicle stereo is where you play cd's mostly- me anyhow- and compared to regular cd's mine was just god awful.

Anybody else run across that??
