"Rainy Night In Georgia" Brook Benton

I love to sing deep soul and Classic R&B. I feel Rainy night deep in my soul when I sing it.

My favorite song to sing......well it changes from time to time......there is a song called "Barlight", by Charlie Robinson.....it's relatively unknown, so it was easy to maske it mine....then there is "Man To Man", by Gary Allan... I really like that one too...I gotta feal a song before I can really sing it....it has to have a connection with my life somehow....

Favorites To Sing:

Past The Point Of Rescue - Hal Ketchum

Because I can really sing this song. When I'm in competition this is the song I always go to. It also is a tremendous song, one of the best 100 country songs from the 90's without arguement. One other reason, it has just enough southern rock roots in the back track to please any crowd.

Wolves - Garth Brooks

I've lived this song. Not the reality of driving steer down into lower ground due to a midwest blizzard, but struggling through hard times and wondering how I will get through them. It is a song about faith in the face of fear. Here is a worthless piece of trivia. When Garth Brooks cuts an album he puts the tracks in order, from his least favorite to his most favorite. On No Fences, Wolves is the last track, and I can understand why. It is, IMHO Garth's best song.

Baby Got Back - Sir-Mix-A-Lot

Hey, this Jewish white boy can rap! No seriously, I can. Younger crowd, packed club, no way to get people out dancing faster than rapping, and I stress rapping versus just speaking Baby Got Back.

Jimmy Eat World - In The Middle

This is one of those songs that I love to sing but I don't get. When ever I sing this I get a huge reaction, and it's always positive. You know the reaction, the high fives, the folks coming up to your table after telling how great you sound - and sometimes I'm uncomfortable with that. But as I sing it, and when I sing it, it sounds just OK to me. But I guess I can wail the crap out of it!

Basketcase - Green Day

I LOVE singing this song. I can do a solid job with it. My Karaoke fantasy, find a free, worn out guitar that's had it and smash it to pieces during the outro. Don't hate me for that!

Because I Got High - Afroman

I only sing this at one bar. I sang it on a dare and well, I did a great job. One thing about this song is you can be an ENTERTAINER when you sing this, and it is a great audience particpation song. When I go to the bar the legacy lives on and I'm asked over and over and over again to please, please, please do Because I Got High. Sigh......OK.....if I must.

I Want To Come Over - Mellisa Etheridge

First, Melissa Etheridge is the most under rated singer/song writer from the 90's period. Her music is real, heartfelt, and passionate. Second, Melissa and I share the same key - I can sing any of her song! It is a tad odd to see a guy singing an Etheridge riff but I love this song. It is so sexy.

Sing For The Moment - Eminem

There is a reason why I like doing this rap. I can do it well, although the Sound Choice version isn't perfect, which is rare. At a bar I use to go to my ex's attorney would literally come in and heckle me. I've since wised up and don't go there anymore, but I made a point to learn this one as a way to mock back.

"If my music is literal and I'm such a criminal
How the %@#^ could I raise a little [boy]
I couldn't I wouldn't be fit too..."

Yes, I have custody of my son. Great satisfaction and doing that one with him in the room. Those were the days.

Fly Me To The Moon - Frank Sinatra

The Ultrasonics version of this is the original Sinatra back track! Right up to the slightly distorted orchestra solo in the middle of the song, they could have cleaned it up - LOL. Hey, every guy needs to sing one of the crooner tunes and this one is mine. I always try to inject my own style in a song (hey, I sure don't sing in the same style as Melissa Etheridge, that would require gargling with sandpaper) but this song is the exception to that. I spent hours listening to the Sinatra version, and then copying the same style. I don't do a parody/impression - that is I sing in my voice, but hit the same vocalizations, pauses, and inflection changes as 'ol blue eyes.

Life Sucks Then You Die - The Fools

It took me 18 months to find this Karaoke disc. AMS-2001. But I finally found a copy! The Fools hail from my hometown where I grew up, so the song got a lot of airplay when I was growing up. Further the reference to the "Class of '85" is a riot as it is my graduation year. I can usually get the audience with me on this song and get everyone yelling at the end, "life sucks, life sucks, life sucks, then you die!"

----------------------

I have more -- but those are my favorites, doesn't that cover a solid set on a slow night!

WEll... since ya asked....

You are going to *groan* at this one because I saw this song really talked down in a forum around here not so very long ago:

Gloria Gaynor: "I will Survive" is one of my signature songs around here on karaoke night. People love it when I sing it & I'm the ONLY one around here that sings it ever-- I have NEVER heard anyone else sing it. If I have sung quite often that night and not sang it yet then people put it in for me to sing.. :D

another one is:
Gretchen Wilson: "Redneck Woman" in certain towns tho -- in one town although people will dance and move to it, they won't yell to it.. ERRR! In another town people go crazy and I can't hear myself singing but it's SOOO much fun. :wink:

You're kidding, Cindy! EVERY PLACE I go to will have someone singing it, if not someone else attempting to after someone has sang it. I always thought that was one of the karaoke songs that gets sung FAAAAARRR too much. Wow, you've never heard anyone else sing it? I can hardly believe that. Do you live in a small town?

Depends on the night and the crowd, but most times this one is sung, people seem to get into it. It's kinda funny really to hear someone sing it who CAN'T (and I don't consider that a really hard song to sing, either.) It's also funny to hear someone sing it whose normal picks for songs are pop/rock genres. I usually sing along with it whether I want to or not. I guess it's catchy. ;)

Ya know Roxy .... I don't think of those are EASY sings. Yes, they are "over sung" at karaoke shows... but the quality is USUALLY lacking, and thats what turns everyone off about 'em.

Ocassionally, someone will just Kick butt on one of 'em.... and when that happens... ya can't beat those songs for gettin' an audience going.

I'd really like to hear ya do ... "Your signature" piece. If you've subbed it before... I'd like to hear it ~~ I heard you do RNW ... and it WAS good.

Yes I live in a VERY small town - one bar. I travel to surrounding towns to karaoke when they have it too (up to 40 miles one way) and I'm still the only one that will sing it - LOL! In fact when I entered a contest a couple of weeks ago I sang it after the contest was over and the KJ said that I'd better be including it as one of my songs for the finals - LOL! Nope - I have NEVER heard anyone else sing it - if I don't sing it then it doesn't get sung in any of the towns I go to (about 4 of them so far). Like I said, I try not to sing it and I get forced into it anyway - LOL!

``````` oh another one I love to do is `````````````
Proud Mary ~ Tina Turner (this is another one that on particular KJ that is around here quite often will make me sing it if I don't put it in)
I live a "sheltered life" so I don't get much karaoke exposure - LOL! I do travel to other towns & like I told Debauchery I dunno - it's just like that around here :wink:
I did sub it a long time ago and got like 2 listens to it and couldn't figure out why until that thread came up not too long after I'd sub'd it, then it was like :idea: that explains a lot - LOL!
Thx for the comment about RNW - that recording was not good sound wise cuz it was like my 3rd ever attempt at recording - LOL! I hope to re-record that when I get my new equipment soon *doing happy dance*.
Maybe sometime in the future I will redo "I will survive" and put it up, or else I'll put it up at my site and you can have your own private listen - but then again here or there it'd end up to be only you listening to it - LOL :lol:
That's so weird to me. I would think that would be one many people would try (since it is an older, well-known song.) I've never sang it, and for that very reason. Number one, I CAN'T sing it - too high for me, and two, I tend to sing stuff purposely that people don't hear often. I'm pretty known for pulling out 70's classics and one-hit wonder stuff no one else will go for. :)
I've only heard the CCR and Elvis versions of that. One I wish I could sing some night is 'River Deep, Mountain High.' But man! That song is TOUGH! But I sooooo love it. Maybe I should go out and get myself a Tina wig and a gold, shimmery dress with those long strings that hang down at the bottom and see if I can transform myself into her. Um, nah. I'll never be able to sing it. ;)
Wow Debauchery! We hear the Tina Turner version often... Maybe heard the CCR version, maybe.... never the Elvis.
We often hear "I Will Survive".
It's interesting the differences in areas.. If we were to make a list of songs that we hear often I imagine the diversity would be amazing!
Susie :D
I agree about the differences in area. It would be interesting to see a list of diversity. Maybe we could start another thread, although I am sure it's been done before ;)
Per the Tina Turner version, I would prefer to hear that one... but I guess we don't get many people with that much nerve.
What's really funny is when you get two older guys singing 'My Way' both in Sinatra and Elvis styles... and having a younger person (20's or so) look up and say "What is THIS??" I don't know if they didn't know the song, or simply didn't like the singers. I thought everyone knew that song :lol:
How strange, I've never heard "My Way" in the style of Elvis!! Geesh! Two versions done by Elvis I've never heard! I thought I'd heard all there was in the style of Elvis..... :shock:
There's a guy who goes to this one place I go regularly (I think I told you of the place ;) ) who sings mostly only Elvis stuff. He's known for it. Even strikes the Elvis poses. Anyway, he and his friend sing 'My Way' together occasionally, and they share verses. His friend does the Sinatra style, and he does Elvis. It's different, that's for sure.
