I use the jbl powered 10" cabinets they works great for monitors and you can even use them for mains at the smaller gigs. I keep 4 of them around best damn little speaker ever made.

U got that right PK In A new place I like to turn the stage monitors on first JBL 10 G2's and ask how is that? When they say pretty good I say ok let me turn on the mains..... And I have used them for mains in small bars......People go nuts...

Does anybody use cans (headphones) on the stage for those hard of hearing types Im considering it Think it might work.... Got buddy that has hearing aids with cans he sings alot better becuz he can hear....

Had them before, just becomes more cords to monitor so they don't get entwined with the mic cords. Also you can't change the settings in the headphones like you can individual monitors on stage - some mixers you can, but most won't. Someone wants more/less vocals, you pretty much have to do it so it comes through the mains which can make YOUR mixing ability look bad.

The Soundcraft Compact 10 works well for sending one mix to the artist and another to the floor but it's a bad choice for live venues because of a lack of effects AND no aux send/returns. The other issue is sending seperate headphone mixes when you have duets, etc.

As crazy as it might sound, I would find it hard to justify using headphones for my patrons. The expense and hassle to mix each headhone during a show just isn't worth it IMO.

I run a karaoke show, not a studio. Providing the best sound, library, mix, and equipment I can given my budget is what I try to do. I'm constantly adding more songs to my book, upgrading equipment (for now) and trying to learn more and more about my craft. Using seperate headphones seems overkill.

For the hard of hearing you could always try turning up the monitors a little louder or positioning them on stands. This would direct more of the sound at the singer but feedback could become an issue if they have poor mic control.

as a singer I do appreciate a good monitor because even if I don't need it doesn't hurt. In some cases I like it because my voice has a high ring to it being a tenor that I cannot hear unless I can hear myself which can cause me to actually be a little higher than I need to be but when I can hear myself I can instantly solve the problem. Ask any women sopranos or male tenors that sing at your venues and thay will probably tell you they like having a monitor.
