I am looking to kick my business up a notch this year and I am looking to send out about 40-50 promo packs to bars & clubs in my area to try to drum up bussiness. I have never put one together before and I was curious if any of you guys have ever tried this. If so how what kind of materials did you enclose in the packs and how successful was it? Thanks.

I have done this with banquet halls for the mobile work - haven't had much success with that route. My package included several color brochures, plenty of business cards and letter introducing myself and the business and how I thought I could enhance their offerings to prospective clients (especially with discount prices through house referrals).

I think banquet halls generally hook up with one or a few companies they become familiar and comfortable with - they know the company/DJ is reliable and will deliver a successful party. A good way to get a foot in their door is to catch up with the catering manager when doing a job, introduce yourself, get a card and follow up shortly after the gig. If you don't already have a booking, then try to get a brief appointment and meet in person with them.

From what I've seen, it's pretty much the same around here in the bar/karaoke market. If you do mail or drop off material, be sure to follow up with a phone call and try to meet with them in person. Just my $.02. Good luck.
