Hello World.
I have a 35x22 room that i want to use as a theater/karaoke room.
My main question revolves around the audio setup. I want to do a 7.2 surround sound system for the theater and use the same speakers for karaoke.
What i plan to do so far: (i have not purchased any of this yet)

i've read some things regarding active/passive speakers but im not sure if this would be a big deal breaker.

Is it possible to use this receiver/wireless microphone system/speakers as a theater system and for karaoke? will it sound good?
or should I ditch the idea of using the in wall speakers for karaoke and get 2 loud active speakers on stands?

***Instead of in wall speakers for the 2 front speakers of this audio setup, i can just leave a wall plate with rca(or any kind of) jacks so i can plug any speaker into it. that way i can just switch out "movie" speakers for "karaoke" speakers -

And if I go with this option would i have to manually change things on the main receiver so it only outputs audio to those 2 speakers? or is there a receiver i can use that can have different "profiles" for different kinds of audio configs... again i apologize as I am a noob when it comes to this stuff.

Another concern during "karaoke mode" is making sure i can use the main receiver to output any audio to the speakers that combine whatever source i have audio coming from (roku hdmi input, bluetooth ipad etc) as well as the microphone audio from the wireless mic receiver. Is this even a concern or is that what receivers are designed to do? if so will the marantz I listed above work for this?

I will have a small rack in a closet in the hall outside of the room, with all the hardware and speaker wires run back to it. So there will be no line of site between microphones and their receiver.

Am I over complicating things? I welcome any thoughts on the hardware i mentioned above or ideas on how to do this cleaner and still get good sound.

I know it's been a few days since you posted this, but I thought I would take a minute to responde myself.

First off, welcome to the forum!

Second, I didn't closely at the specs on the speaker you are thinking about, but the first thing that comes to mind in question is: Are they built for "live" performance? I cannot say that I would put these in my home for karaoke or not. It looks like they would be more suitable for "surround sound" type of application. Live music (especially vocals) produces sound that is unfiltered or that is no compressed to run through many of todays home theater systems. It will blow the speaker up sometimes just after a few short uses. I am not saying that the system you are looking at will do that or not, I just didn't look that closely at them honestly. But it most definitely is something for you to study deeper. I would suggest looking at systems that are made specifically as PA sound reinforcement. What I use for mine is a pair of EV Evolve50 speakers. I have even used them for home movies and home karaoke,,,, they are incredible!! But that is just one choice of many.

Also, I take it you would be using your surround systems receiver as the main power source? That is definitely not a good idea at all. You would do much better with a mixing board that is large enough to suit your input needs. If you choose that mic system, you would need a much larger board to accept that many mics. One input for each.

I think I know what you are wanting to achieve,,, (a more stealth look) and that is really cool concept for sure! But, my suggestion is to not sacrifice sound quality for a look.

Mr. Scott gave some good advice. You never want to use a Home Theater System for karaoke. Home theater speakers are NOT meant for live performances, which karaoke is.

Keep the two separated. You should consider a dedicated set-up for karaoke alone. This would consist of powered speakers and a mixing console. And professional grade mics.

Don't, whatever you do, buy a system that says "karaoke". They are toys.

I'm sure if you post your budget, we can help you choose a proper system for karaoke and live music. But figure at least $1500 as a starting point.

You can, however, use your TV for the on screen graphics and your laptop as the source, as long as both have HDMI.

At one point in time, I was using my PA system as a surround sound (well, stereo) for my home movies or just watching tv. We did hook up the karaoke part of it from time to time as well. So, I do know what they are wanting to do. The biggest problem with a PA system is how much room they need, and what to do with the mixing console when not in use. I have seen someone actually use a 70 volt sound systems in a couple of reception centers. As far as vocals go, that would work (most speaking only, no singing), but you most definitely be giving up sound quality for the stealth look.

Like Alan mentioned, if you want to post a budget that you need to work with, many of us in here can offer suggestions as to what direction to take. However, it still is up to you, these would only be suggestions.

I'm with Mr Scott and Alan on keeping the two separate systems. Maybe a splitter between the two systems from the audio sources. That way you can leave both hooked up and use whatever system you need to use for your purposes.

I have a couple more comments to the OP regarding the Home Theater setup...

Are you running a Dolby Atmos setup? If so, the in-ceiling speakers would be perfect for the Atmos or DTS X channels. But for everything else, I would go with conventional speakers. You'll get a much better sound.

As far as receivers... I would recommend Yamaha or Denon. The latest ones all do 7.2 Atmos sound.

For speakers, I would recommend Paradigm or Klipsch. Amazon has both.

And if you go with the Klipsch, they have an in ceiling speaker as well as Paradigm. Yes, it's more money but it blows the Micca away as far as sound quality. Since you're probable only going to do this once, don't settle for less if you don't have to.

Remember, Micca is in the budget category. Not saying that they're not good, just not in the same league as the ones mentioned. If you take my advice, you and your family and friends will truly feel that you're in a state of the art movie theater.

Now, we just have to work on that 4K laser projector to fill your new 80" screen!
