We finished adding the database and code infrastructure for iCroons to catalog karaoke videos on YouTube this morning. It's a nice addition, but unfortunately we can't just automatically scan YouTube for all Karaoke videos and add them overnight. We're primarily going to be using videos that come from YouTube channels that specialize in karaoke videos and not from individuals. This also enables us to take down batches of links across an entire channel should any legal issues arise. When you get results with YouTube links, there will be no brand listed. We could list a channel name or something like that, but this is done on purpose. Obviously most of these videos aren't legal for public display but home users will love this feature and when you get results, everyone will get used to the idea that those with no brand name are just for viewing on YouTube. Whereby KJs will actually look for the brand name. It also gets home users using iCroons and then maybe deciding to purchase a track that they can actually keep on their hard drive or recommend to their KJ to purchase. YouTube results will appear right along side of other download results, so both professional KJs and home singers can utilize the same search engine and both be familiar with what's out there for both home and professional use.
Update: Hundreds of tracks have already been added since the original post from multiple channels, including StingRay Karaoke, Let's Sing!, Sing King, and others to follow. New songs will be added daily. Hope to have thousands of the most popular tracks in there by summer. Also, YouTube links will never appear in the "New Releases" section. That will always be for professional tracks that are legally licensed for public shows.
