The son loves to sing, and the little daughter is also happy to) I want to give him a microphone for his birthday! But I am a complete layman in all these matters. Please advise: which microphone is better to choose (price-quality), where to connect it?

I found a list of various types of karaoke mics (https://micspeech.com/karaoke-microphones/): wireless microphones or for karaoke machines and even special kid’s. Is there anything worth purchasing? I'm at a loss ...

Does he have a karaoke machine now? A microphone won't do anything if there isn't anything to plug one into. Then some of the cheap home machines (toys basically) won't really accept a decent microphone. Need a little more info. A decent 'cheap' mic can run as much as $180 (for wireless) or less for wired.

Just find a used Shure 58 handheld mic on Craigslist or go to a Pawn Shop and find one there for a decent price (less than $50....30-40 would be better)

We haven't any equipment for karaoke now... I thought if I buy just a mic I will use some programs for singing and that's all

That really doesn't help in all honesty. All mics aren't the same and depending on what you are plugging into will make a difference on what you should get.

If you plan on just using music from a computer technically you don't really need a microphone at all. Just let him sing normally.

However, if you have the money you could get a cheap behringer speaker, a sm58 and a mini mixer for less than $300

Or get a single Behringer Ulm300usb mic. Plugs right into the computer itself.

They're good for home. Too many singers touch the buttons and then complains and says it's your fault that they keep muting the mics.

Shure 58 is almost one of the betters... use it!

How's the manufacturing quality? Do Shure 58's last for a long time?

There are many different mics on market for singers but you still need to match it with a program or CDG player, and a speaker. Many use some of the portables for home use like VocoPro, which can take a CD or attach a computer, or even some of the newer tower units that start at $400. So how much to spend on a mic depends on the kind of singer, some mics have more filtering for better singers, while others use little or no filtering easier to sing on for beginner singers. Recently you could have bought Sennheiser 935 or 945s for $99, usual $240 mic, these mics have incredible filtering while the Shure SM58 has decent filtering and a good choice for most applications, and there are the OM5s, and others which work similar to the SM58s, for $50-99. Recommend do not buy very cheap Chinese imports they will fall apart and not worth even $10.

If you're on a budget, the Behringer XM8500 is an amazing mic. It rivals the Shure SM58 in both build and sound quality. What's more amazing is that you can pick one up for less than $25.

So, let me repeat this... this mic is just about as good as a Shure SM58. And I have both mics and can hardly tell a difference between the two.
