After last year's fiasco I've pretty-much given up on out-door gigs. Hassles with power, shelter, and wind were contributing factors, but the biggest pain in the butt was with sunlight on both the singer's screens and my laptop.
I've since done a little reading on the type of monitor used by many road production companies who contract to out-door venues like fairs & exhibitions. They are bright and clearly visible in most lighting situations, but very, very expensive.
Has anyone here come up with a solution to this problem? I've turned down two well-paying out-door gigs this summer, mostly because I couldn't guarantee the singers would have a clearly visible video feed.

Earl, you can DIY out of thin plywood or thick cardboard, paint it black. I did; looks like this: Attachment:

It turns the background a very light color and the words a dark color. Winamp has that option in the themes.

(i really don't care if Bob is such a d*ckwad as others posted on this forum) Still love karma and the rest of his software. Pictures below, outdoor & indoor. I have 2 MSi laptops, one for show, the other, back-up and download tracks on the fly. Karma either high contrast or brightness set to the max. Attachment:

I've stopped doing outdoor events because of the hassle. You got the glare issue as mentioned above. And let's not forget the bugs and mosquitoes on your laptop in in your face, and of course, the biggest drawback of all, the weather. It's no fun when you're out there and a storm breaks. For these and a multitude of other reasons, it's just not worth it.

I use SUNBRITE outdoor display. (Expensive but very durable) can use for kiosk outdoors, CDG display, Touch screen karaoke and more.
