shotgun i am sure you will fit in soon enough...either into clique 1,2 or 3 ol i am so gonna get petrol bombed for that comment....but welcome shotgun....over the last few weeks i have taken a back step in commenting on peoples subs....partly because i lost the spring in my SS step and felt a little bit disillusioned by the whole thing...and yes when i have subbed since it has made a vast difference in the amount of people who listen....it may not all be that looking at others subs and comments...it could be people are busy with xmas preps.
shotgun, i personally think if your taking the time to listen then you will soon make friends and very quickly gain your regular listeners as many will tell you
goodluck and hopefully you will continue to enjoy your time with us all

yes, generally if you listen and comment on someone's subs, they will try to visit your subs in return.
Shotgun -
I agree with you, that it doesn't really matter WHEN your sub is uploaded... because when you visit someone's profile you can see all of their subs.
Everyone has preferences, and when I look at the 'Newest Submissions' page, I will first look for songs that I know. I always listen to those first. Then I'll scan for people I enjoy hearing to see if they've subbed anything recently. Every so often, I will just listen to random submissions, but that doesn't happen on a regular basis, it's just too time consuming.
One of the best ways I've seen to get folks to listen to a sub you have worked particularly hard on, is just to come here, to the Singers Forum, and post something like "Please Comment/Critique My Song".
Once the 'critique' option is installed, I think it would be nice to be able to search for subs people would like to have critiqued. I don't often bother to listen to songs which don't allow ranking... except in special circumstances or when it's a song I just really want to hear.
Anyway, always nice to see a 'new face' so WELCOME!! Don't let the 'clique' thing stress you out. You'll make friends if you hang out in the forums. Most folks here are very approachable.

With as busy as that site is getting, it's painfully obvious that many people, many DESERVING people I might add, will not get listened too...
It's not a CLIQUE thing (jeez Missy, talk about beatin' a dead horse), it's a matter of time and how busy the site is getting.
I'll admit I haven't heard your stuff yet Shotgun (and when you talk about yourself in the third person occasionally, it reminds me of "The Rock"! !), and may NOT if you don't sing the stuff I wanna hear the most. And that's what you'll find...
* the occasional listeners cause their your friends
* the listeners cause you are singing the stuff that they like
* those that are trying to return the honor of your listening and commenting on their songs.

Shotgun CC wrote: I also was reading a thread yesterday about "what song did you submit that you wish more had listened to and commented on". Well..... I understand wanting that occur.. because as some have said... sometimes you try very hard on a song and then very few listen.
I think this is a perfect time to ask a question that's been bugging me this week. For the past several weeks I've been going through the pages of songs in SS and looking for / listening to songs that specifically showed few comments left because I know what it feels like to have few people listen or comment. I found some gems by doing this.
Now this week though the # of comments no longer appears on the pages until I click into the songs. Why did this feature get removed from the main page? Did it really add that much onto load time?

Excuse me???? THE ROCK ..... ??? as in WWF ????? .....
WOW....My kid used to watch that when he was little ....
Anyway........
To the rest of you.......thanks to all for the insight on how things "work" around here. Sorry to hear that there are cliques ... certaninly not gonna get involved in that. So far, have enjoyed giving and getting comments and will stay for as long as its enjoyable. If it gets ugly .... I'll be gone.
Knightshow...I'll submit stuff I like .... if ya listen... cool ... if not ... okay too.
Seemed to me ... at the beginning of this thread.... that Cort was trying to find ways for "newbies" to be encouraged to stay. Was just trying to give some insight .... on some of the things that I noticed or thought about.
Okay.... time to get shopping. Life is calling me.... !! Have a great day All..... Hugs, CC

*Note to self.. I need glasses* Welcome Shotgun! As far as the "clique" thing goes... that term started as a joke.. and now I'm afraid new people will actually think it's a fact... which in turn will make it a fact since this is sort of a virtual reality and your mind is where you decide these things. Yes.. there are groups of people who have become friends here.. but there is no exclusive club! I think Matt tried to make that clear in an earlier post. This is definitely a small community and ya get out of it what you give to it... I think Phill has designed this site to accommodate everyone... so.... are we having fun yet?

THANK you my friend. It's nice to know a couple of you knew I was joking on that part.
For the record, there is hardly ANYBODY on this site I don't like, and I even tolerate them! ! I've refrained from posting a lot of what I feel, because I've been attacked for having a different opinion on here than most. And mostly what I've wanted was a different OPTION, not to change the way the site is ran or administered. I also will call it like I see it, and I truly believe, deep in my heart, that the current ranking system FOSTERS a lot of negativity on the site. You'll see some terrific singers NEVER get into the top ten or whatever... yet you'll see some truly average singers get in there sometimes, just due to the easy tens that seem to roll off some people's ranks.
It's a two edged sword too. If you rank "appropriately", you're chastized for being too hard, or too critical.
There are NO OFFICIAL Cliques. But as you've pointed out Sher, there ARE groups of friends who converse, joke, IM each other, even make blinkies for each other! !
I'm just happy to be here.

While I agree with the comments that, there are so many subs, it's hard to find time to listen, etc. don't you think that if person A listens to person B, and decides they don't like person B's singing, they stop listening to that person? So the people who might suck more would be the one complaining more about this problem?? Because personally, since my time is limited, I would rather listen to the people I know sound at least passable, but if there is someone whose voice I can't stand, or who I know sucks, I don't listen to them. Also I don't know how to comment to those people without lying so I would rather not comment and not listen to those people. I'm sure I'm not the only person who does that....
I hope I haven't offended anyone...and please don't think that because I don't listen to you or comment, that I think you suck. I haven't had much time to be on here at all lately.
