OK - I have seen some of the photos of some of the "home studios" in another thread on the tech forum & I've got to say I'm shocked and amazed, particularly at Crystal's I think -- I would never have guessed that you could get such good sound out of an itty bitty thing like that.

I have a question tho - do most of you record your background first and then add your audio to it? I'm using Audigy and I am a little frustrated with the lack of doc that I've found for it but I guess free is free.

For those of you using Audigy, if you record the vocal and add it to the music track - how do you do it? I mean how do you listen to the song and record the just the vocals? I'm using a Soundblaster USB sound card connected via RCA jacks to my cheapy karaoke machine, mic is connected to the karaoke machine.

If I connected my mic to the input jack directly onto my sound card instead of having the mic connected to my karaoke machine - would I get a clearer sound to the vocals? I'd have to get an adapter to plug my mic into so that it fits the little input compared to the big plug on the mic.

Sorry - my mind is really going today and I'm trying to do better recording. I'd wanted to record a cd for the family for Xmas but not enough time or doc's to figure it all out so it'll have to wait. Plus having been sick with sinus infection for almost 2 months now has really affected my singing voice. So I thought I'd use this time to figure out recording better.

Couple things....

1. The sinus infection - Having been there more times than I can remember, I completely feel for you. If indeed it's an infection see a doctor if you haven't already. In the meantime, hot herbal tea - especially those with mint in them - and a little honey helps to clear the head. I highly recommend Celestial Seasoning Emporor's Choice as well since it contains lots of herbs taht are good for the immune system. Check with your doctor beforehand though in case it interferes with any other medications you might be taking. Nasal Saline is also a big help in overcoming the infection. As your head starts to clear up be sure to switch to a fresh bottle to keep from re-infecting yourself. If the sinus infection is caused by a pollen based allergen, there have been studies that showed if you ingested the pollen you could build a resistance to the allergen. How do you ingest the pollen? Honey. A couple tablespoons of honey from a LOCAL grower will likely contain the pollen you're having a reaction with and it may help. Speak with an allergist and/or your doctor about this though before starting a honey regimen - and NEVER give honey to a toddler or infant unless directed to do so by a medical professional

2. The studios, your setup, etc. - Audigy actually has excellent documentation in the form of a FAQ and a downloadable manual. It's a seperate download so it's often overlooked though.

Recording - I prefer to use an external mixer and record using a single input into the computer. I can move the vocals all the way to one side and the music to the other to later seperate if I want to add effects (I normally don't but I've been playing with it).

You can record the music and then later record the vocals or playback the ripped CDG on the computer and record just the vocals. This will require setting the start point on the music and vocals to match up unlike recording from a single source. It's partly because of the simplicity that I prefer to record the music and vocals at the same time.

The player that Crystal showed is actually a pretty good player. I was in a pinch to do a show and actually used that player to do a couple shows while my main player was still en-route. The nice thing is that if you want to do some karaoke at a small office party or someone else's house you can take this player, hook it up to the tv/stereo and do a small show for friends. I paid less than $40USD for that player at my local Radio Shack.

If you hook directly to the sound card to record you may or may not get a better sound. The quality of the mic has a lot to do with the recording. Moving to an adapter to hook up your existing mic to your sound card might be an issue since you'll have to add effects afterwards instead of using the echo control (found on most player mic inputs) to add an effect while you're recording.

All in all I hope this makes sense. If you have any more questions feel free to ask and we'll do our best to answer them for you.

Been there done that - twice in the last 60 days. Been on 2 rounds of meds, 1st round stronger than the usual dose (2000 mg a day) 2nd round stronger than the first -- both rounds I felt somewhat better until I was done with the meds then 2 days later sick again.

I drink a cup of tea almost every night with some honey in it that has been "grown" locally.

Yep - I overlooked it so I'll have to go back. I thought I'd searched their site but maybe I still missed it.

Thanks for the advice & info.
