In my opinion,, this one is even better (from the same great movie too),, and is one of the best versions out there to enjoy.

Great singing, but there's just everything wrong with this movie. While it's supposed to be about each character's search for their 15 minutes of stardom/redemption, it still portrays karaoke singers as convicts, drifters, hustlers, loser salesmen. If the average person doesn't know anything about karaoke and sees this movie, they'll probably never want to go to a karaoke show, or they'll want to go to see the trainwrecks that attend karaoke. For those that DO know karaoke, it has its funny moments as well as some decent singing, but that's about it. Lousy movie.

I guess it is just a matter of taste. I quite enjoy that movie. Is it a classic?? No. But it is an entertaining movie. Plus I always like to watch Paul Giamati lose his mind.

Is this an academy award winning type movie? No. Entertaining? Heck yeah imo. Huey is good & could make it as an actor. Surprisingly, Gwyneth P could make it as a recording artist easily, without question. Giamatti is superb as always. It’s not for everyone, tho’ I think those of us who have experienced ‘real life’ probably would be more receptive to this movie. When time allows, I’d be quite happy to rent this movie on dvd & watch it again.

It IS mildly entertaining but it's still overall a crappy movie.

I'm just happy they culled the incestuous subplot--I remember reading at one point they were considering a romantic relationship between Huey Lewis and Gwenyth Paltrow's characters...
The thing that struck me as off on the movie--has anyone anywhere ever referred to the karaoke list as a menu?
Also, nice little cameos by Michael Buble and John Pinnette.

That's the only thing that struck you as being off? What about the fact that the "Menu" was only 1 sheet/page?.. and at every place they went too?

Nobody said it was a well written movie,,, Take the movie for what it is,,, "entertainment",,, just like karaoke is supposed to be,,, entertaining... Don't take it as something serious,,, because that is when it ceases to fun. IMO I thought the movie was entertaining. The music was good too. Sure there was a ton of "faux pas" in there,,, but wouldn't any of you like to get the kind of response the singers got from the audiences throughout the flick?? I know I sure would,, but in reality,,,, that is truly rare... Peace out yo'

Plus how many times can you hand a host a disc without waiting for any kind of turn shortly after walking in and be singing immediately. Well ok im sure there are some hosts that will but not as a rule.
