Karaoke machines are made for CDG's and DVD players for playing DVD's.

Of course there are some hybrids that play 726 different music formats, but always try to use the right tools for the job. A JVC XLSV22BK is a good machine for home and gig useage, a Single Tray CD+G Player.

The sound of the music or the sound of the vocals don't sound good? The music should sound fine, unless you are using cheesy karaoke discs which can make them sound not as good. Does your mic plug into the player right now? This will ALMOST always make vocals sound bad as the mic inputs in most players are very generic, no eq settings, cheesy effects.

A small mixer w/effect could be your ticket to better sound.

Hi. Thanks for the replies. The sound quality of the music is fine but it's the audio coming from the mic that is not too great. I have a good microphone so I think it's the dvd player that is responsible for the low sound quality.

Yeah more than likely it's the input on the DVD player. These are generally low grade & sound like crap on MOST machines. Look into a small mixer w/effects.
