As for discs dying: could be, but not only are they not dead yet, in some cases people- including PC kjs and IP trolls feel that their ownership is REQUIRED, whether used in a show or not.

Also, a prediction: mp3s and downloads won't cut it when the giants fjnish remodeling the industry. There will be a return to some sort of hard media ( disc? Card? Stick? Something new?) For copyright protection, and hackable downloads and mp3s will be a memory. Ya heard it here first. PC hosts, prepare for an overhaul.
I completely agree with you on the highlighted statement. For as long there are manu's defending their IP, the physical media will be needed for proof.

I agree as well. I also support it. I will play by the rules. But I am also keeping my ear to the ground and the moment I feel I can replace all of my discs with downloads, that is exactly what I will do.

Think about it......

Some of you started out on cassette tape.......as soon as Laserdiscs came out, how many more tapes did you buy? When CD+G came out, how many more expensive Laserdiscs did you buy (this one is a little unique considering the video aspect of LD).

For some of us, the moment digital downloads were available, we stopped buying CD+G for new music.

Took awhile for laser discs to catch up to catch up with my cassette library, but when it did I swithed quickly - no more lyric sheets! The singers LOVED it ! When CD+G discs came out I to the world's fastest running freakin' LEAP away from LDs.

Videos were awesome, but CD+G price point just couldn't be ignored. Geez those LDs were expensive..... this enabled me to expand my library much more quickly- a HUGE plus for bringing in moe singers. They LOVED it!

When cdg really started taking off (DK was totally around during the Pioneer heydays). I still purchased laserdiscs if I found discs with songs I wanted/needed. I did not like the DK lyric swipes at the time and hated the pan flute so avoided them like the plague. It wasn't until SC & MM came out followed by several others that started putting out songs that were also being released on new laserdiscs that made the laserdisc releases not worth buying. I think my last laserdisc buy was around 97. But I still use them all!
