Big Mike,
I've been using a set of Gemini VHF mics since somewhere around 97-98, no problems yet! They have really held up well. Recently I bought a new Gemini UHF set because I know the VHF set won't last forever. I am dissappointed with the UHF set,,, don't know what the technical term is but you all will know what I mean, every time you move your hand (change your grip) on the mic you hear it through the speakers. My old VHF set doesn't do that. I've been very lucky with my VHF set, no problems whatsoever with neon or bleeding freq's. Yes I know they are not Shure's but I've never had a complaint about the mics. $229 in 98-98 and still using them,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, not a bad buy, wish I had another set.

In regards to Vocopro,,, I have 2 of their mixers, a 7900 & 8000, they have served me well, a few problems but thats info for another thread. I had a Vocopro rack mount Decoder, total bummer, never could get one to work, once again another story. Good friend bought the set of Vocopro mics & had switches come apart on two of them the first night. Got them repaired, same thing again. The Vocopro mics had the "hand noise" REALLY bad. He got rid of them and went back to using his Gemini's like mine. He's used his 3 nights a week for over 6 years,,, 1 wore out switch.

Yes I would love to have a set of Shures, would really help my ego when other "karaoke professionals" show up but it's really hard to give up my Gemini workhorses.

I just bought a Carvin mixer to replace my oldest Vocopro. Sounds Great, I love it. It's too bad that Carvin, Mackie, Yahama, etc, etc, etc, doesn't look at the layout and features of the large vocopro boards and build one for KJ's,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, not DJ's or bands. so nice to be able to switch video, change keys, slide between Karaoke & DJ music, but once again that's another topic.

Hope this helps,

JB

Hey all -

Just a note to advise you that this post was moved... Didn't catch this (or many other topics fo that matter) that deal with Karaoke Equipment or Products.

All Technical Questions should be posted in the Technical Questions Forum.
1) That way everyone can find them and read the answers
- speaking of answers -
2) if all tech questions are posted in one area it will be easier for our outstanding technical advisors members (thanks folks) can answer them by visiting just the one forum.

I appreciate your understanding -

Well I don't do the chat boards as much as I used to but I'll put my $.02 on this topic......

First I would like to agree with Knightshow that some of us do not have the budget to get top of the line gear all the time. Get the best quality that you can afford.

I got a set of Gemini 1620M microphones a year & a half ago from a DJ convention that was here in Orlando. One DJ that I have a lot of respect for was working the Gemini booth & got to talking. He demo'd the mics for me, he did everything imaginable(even dropping it on purpose), sold me on them.

Ever since I have been using them at my karaoke shows.

Here's my take on them:

Warm sounding mics compared to my Shures, have to turn the bass down & turn treble up on Gemini's, where I have to do the opposite on my Shures.

Affordability.........they are great for the price they are at. If a mic goes bad it's only $50 to get a replacement mic from Gemini. Also the continueing cost of batterries, they use 2 AA batteries compared to most systems that use 9V,(except for the new systems that are coming out).

Speaking of batteries, what happens when a 9V goes out? Instant dead air. When my AA's start running out you get the familiar "why to I have to turn up the volume more", this is a good indication that the batteries are running out, switch them at a break in the action.

I have gone on the same set of AA batterries for 8 shows, 4 hours per show, where my Shures(9V) would only last one & a half shows. Do the math on how much you spend on batteries per year, great cost savings using AA's, in my opinion.

Now on what I don't like:

Sensitivity of the mic, it's great for singing but can hear the "hand noise" when moving the mic around.

Range, great up close but starts to drop off around 30', but for karaoke who's gonna be 30' away from the reciever?

All comments are a humble opinion of my experience with the equiment asked in the original post.

I went out to my local Karaoke shop and bought a audio2000 cordless. Just need a KJ mic. We have had it for 2 months with no problems at all and I'm on my 3rd 9 volt Battery. We run 2 shows per week. Just my 2 Cents.

I am planning on buying some cordless for singers. Just for safety reasons. Had a singer get cought in mic cord and fall off stage. :o . Caught her so no injuries to her or equip.
