I just got my Sound Choice Foundation sets, and must say that I am disappointed by the rap disc in Foundation II, #7586. While the music is pretty accurate, the lyrics appear way too late and wipe wrong in parts. The "Rapper's Delight" as well as "Baby Got Back" are essentially useless as a result.

Is there a brand known for doing these well? My crowd is particularly interested in these songs, and I don't want them to have a bad experience with an otherwise excellent set of CDGs.

I'm just trying to keep my customers happy, and they aren't happy when the lyrics show up on the screen after you're already supposed to have spoken them. I know Baby Got Back pretty well, and I can barely keep up. The text is supposed to get you ready for what you're going to say next, and that Sound Choice disc fails to do that consistently as far as I'm concerned.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I'm not happy with the Foundations in general. It's just a couple tracks that don't show lyrics as fast as my customers and I would like them to. Thanks for the tips on DK and All Hits, I'll try one of those out. Until then, I'll warn my singers that if they don't know the lyrics well, the display might seem slow.

I too, have a group that likes to do the rap. I can tell you that the timing of the lyrics isn't perfect, but with songs as long as Rapper's Delight (7:04 - I know EXACTLY how long it is, I do it almost every week) and as fast as Baby Got Back is the lyrics are easily thrown off. Once they're off at a point in the song they usually stay off through the remainder of the song. The remainder of the disc, Gin & Juice, etc seem pretty accurate (although mine is being sent in for replacement - last 2 tracks are DOA on the disc out of the box).

I've had marginal success with The Singing Machine discs and hits like 'Air Force Ones'. I'm not a big fan of TSM discs however and find the quality marginal on some of the releases - especially regarding the slimmed down version of Rapper's Delight on G5102 - MTV Classic Hip Hop.

I did find a pair of discs called 'Old School Hip-Hop' disc 1&2 that seem pretty accurate. They show disc numbers FSK1-1 and FSK1-18 respectively.

As far as Sound Choice though, I have #8875, Can't Stop the Hip-Hop Vol. 4 (Old Skool) and found it to be quite accurate on both the lyrics and music (loops, backing tracks, etc).

I'd start with the other Sound Choice offerings first, and then look at Chartbuster, Sun Fly, Top Hits, and Pop Hits who all seem to be decent but not great with rap tracks.

I agree with Vanilla Ice errr I mean Metal God

The DK version of Baby Got Back is much better than SC's version of the song.

I also have the All Hits version of Rapper's Delight and it's not bad either. If I recall, the SC version of this song wasn't bad though.

I've also noticed that Pop Hits Monthly tends to do pretty good on the hip hop and rap stuff.

As KaraokeMeister suggested the SC "Can't Stop the Hip Hops" are good CD's. Here's some numbers and info:

SC8612, Can't Stop the Hip-Hop Vol. 1

SC8656, Can't Stop the Hip-Hop Vol. 2

SC8760, Can't Stop the Hip-Hop Vol. 3

SC8875, Can't Stop the Hip-Hop Vol. 4

Also they make the following discs:

SC8797 - Best Of The Hip Hop Nation 2002

SC2437 - Best Of The Hip Hop Nation 2003

SC8902 - Best of Hip-Hop Nation 2004 (just released 11-19-04)

8) ** get these and you'll really impress them ** 8)
