Wow. After last night, I think I am going to order one of those chairs just to get me through the next week or two. I was able to stand for the first 3 hours, but the last 2 I was in serious discomfort and it was very hard to keep a positive energy flow.

Thanks for all of these suggestions, folks!

Do you have an Ikea close to you? I bought this folding barstool from them, works real well and is very comfortable.

Price is right too at $34.99USD!

Comfortable, good back support but I have to be honest and say it certainly isn't as portable as I would like it to be.
I bought it for wedding gigs but rarely bring it with. Most of the time when loading up I look at it and say nah.
At my karaoke gig I stand or sometimes use a hightop chair/stool

I take your comment about portability seriously. It's one of my prime requirements. But despite that, the Odyssey DJ Chair seems to be the closest suggestion to my idea of what I want. And the price seems reasonable too. Thanks RLC, and thanks to all who made suggestions.

We sit... I don't think our heads should ever be above the singer. Were not DJ's, were not the show, they are... Works for us, plus it's comfortable. We both run the board and mingle...

I do a bit of both. I have a bad back, so standing all night will usually end up painful. Since I refuse to take pain killers, I would rather not deal with the pain. I do stand to sing, or some times to make adjustments on the board. My show has plenty of energy without me standing. Damn, I know one girl who not only sits down all night, she is in a separate room. The bar she works at made a DJ booth for her out of an old storage closet. Her show does fine without her being visible. I don't feel a host HAS to stand all night to run a good show.
