Is anyone going to the convention and maybe give us a report on the karaoke part?
Even better a live feed?

I'm going and I'll try to get by some of the vendors at least and report what I find.

I will be ariving on Sunday night as well. I am sure there will be reports coming from Mobile Beat 2014. I am looking forward to finally putting some faces to names and spending some good quality time with others in the Karaoke industry including some direct face time with the manus.
See everyone in Vegas!!!

I did not know who Joe Vangieri was so I googled him, learned who he was and led me to this interesting video clip about what he was going to be presenting at the 2014 Mobile Beat Convention. Not sure what he is talking about when he says he is going to show DJs & KJs how to use Youtube in a bar setting? http://www.mobilebeat.com/talent/why-di ... angieri-2/Oh yes, Bazza might find it interesting how he pronouinces karaoke.

My impression, being right beside the karaoke cloud booth for 4 days, is that they were pushing the ability for bars to have 24-7 karaoke at their disposal. I discussed with them a business plan to cut out the KJ completely by buying a receiver and then reselling the subscription to bars along with mics and they said it was very possible to have 10-20 bars making money for me using the cloud subscription and just letting customers use a phone app to find their song, put it in the que and then get up and sing, no KJ required.. Also, that I could add music video subscription as well.

I was also just a booth away from Sound Choice display so during the trade show hours I was able to watch the traffic between the Sound Choice booth and the Karaoke Cloud Booth. I guarantee there was 3-4 times the traffic for Karaoke Cloud, plus most of the time there were a minimum of 3 people working at cloud booth, much of the time 4, while most I saw working at SC booth was 2 people and more usually one. Of course, I couldn't watch constantly because I was working at another booth. Also, did not see a National Karaoke Association booth at the s.how or any representation visible. I might have missed it, so someone else who was there might have seen them

I didn't notice a National Karaoke booth either. Wasn't real thrilled about product Rick referenced offered as a joint venture with Ace Karaoke. Joe Vangieri is one extremely sharp individual, but I'm concerned for what conclusions some bar owners will draw re: saving $ on karaoke via the new gadget. Technology can't replace personality and an ear, but it may take them awhile to figure that one out.
The "no fly" list does limit the Digitrack offerings -e.g. no Johnny Cash -- that won't fly so well in my market and that may just help convince the bar owners they can't altogether replace the mobile KJ.
Presentations on sales and marketing were amazing - one of the presenters has 36 shows per week. I definitely picked up some great information from him.
Wish I'd got to meet you Rick.

I went for the first time. Enjoyed it very much. Got to meet Kurt with Sound choice and some of the manufactures. Also went to a booth that was selling photo booths. Thinking of buying one and incorporating it with my DJ services. Had a great time in Vegas. Can't wait to go again.

After reviewing my notes I need to correct myself. The presenter on selling karaoke has 27 shows a week vs. the 36 I mentioned. Still awesome in my book.

I didn't hear anything new on addressing piracy Dave. Still that's not why I went.
What I did get was practical info on things like using social media, raising your rankings in search engines, running contests, selling shows, justifying your price to bar owners using facts that you can easily gather, trends in the industry, chances to informally talk with other hosts and build relationships and a chance to see a lot of technology in use and of course access to books, videos and other training material.
Now if you're already making so much $ from karaoke you couldn't spend another cent of it, then skipping the conference was the right move

I really enjoyed this. there were some great people there.
Rick Priddis (Priddis Karaoke). He stopped by the sound choice booth and chatted for a bit. A real nice guy and very sharp.
Gai Marcos (Tricerasoft). A very Passionate man and dedicated to doing what he can to make available a resource for karaoke Downloads for all KJ's.
Joe Vangieri (CEO Digitrax). Direct and to the point. this man will not blow smoke up your A$$. Also dedicated to providing a good Download resource for KJ's.
David Grimes (Piracy Recovery/Digitrax). Very approachable. A highly passionate man. soft spoken, but carries a big stick. as the head of Piracy recovery, he is determined to help all the current KJ's that have been operating for years as well as help all the new gen KJ's
Kurt Slep (CEO Sound Choice). I had the pleasure of working in the booth with Kurt. He may be old School, But he is determined to continue his fight against piracy and to (Sooner than later) start producing new karaoke tracks in the same high quality his company has always been known for. People have assumed he is not very approachable, but I can assure you, he is definitely very approachable and quite fun to be around.
these people were the most predominant names in Karaoke that attended as an Exhibitor the mobile beat show this year. all were a great bunch of people that I personally learned a great deal from and enjoyed getting to know on a personal level.
All in all it was a great convention.
