Hi there. I just completed all nine weeks of the Fast Track to Fame contest. ARe these things really what they make themselves out to be? I heard the rumors that there have been a lot of broken hearted singers. And now I'm starting to believe it's true. I did one of these in a small town in the Ohio Valley. The male and females who were picked to be on TV (at 3:00AM, when it does air), were not the ones everyone thought would win. There were a lot of bitter words. The club owners asked me to come back and stay on every Friday. But when I got there, there was no one there, no heat in the upstairs room where they have karoake, no sign outside on the sidewalk like there was every week, and the bartender said she didn't know I was coming! One singer showed up at the beginning of the night and told me that everyone thinks that I rigged the contest! So needless to say, I am out of my Friday gig. I'm really pissed too. I had nothing to do with the outcome of that contest; all I did was spin the discs and announce singers. I didn't even talk to the camera man (who was also the judge). must say though, the female winner is a friend of mine. That's why some of the other finalists are mad...They think I had something to do with it, but I didn't...I also had 3 other friends who made finals, and they didn't win. What about them?

I would never do a contest with them. I've heard horror stories from other companies, clubs & contestants about how much of a rip-off & scam this company is & they have very little repeat business from their past clients.

Well, I learned my lesson. It was a small-town bar anyway, and you know how small-town people can be. Bored with their own lives, so they have to make other people miserable. I do a good job at this; everyone says they have a good time. But you know, what happened at this bar really doesn't do my rep all that much good. I decided to just keep with the bigger clubs, who aren't afraid to advertise, and stay away from dive bars out in the middle of nowhere. I'm paying for my son's braces doing this. I have finally found a job that I can honestly say that I LOVE....I will never do another contest again. I think this would have happened no matter who was putting it on.

Fast Track to Fame...They make it sound so BIG when it first starts out. The club owner tells everyone that the finals night will be taped and everyone will get on national TV, then the big night comes and they hand out these flyers with prices on them - $20 for a copy of yourself singing, $300 to guarantee yourself a spot on TV! And only the winning male and females are the ones who get on 'your local WB' - IF you can find it out here in the sticks. And our night is scheduled Dec. 10th at 3:00 AM! yeah, right.

Once this contest was over, the owner didn't advertise karaoke nights anymore, probably because he thought I had the contest rigged too. (The owner's wife had a favored winner that didn't win) So now when I try to get another gig around here, I wonder what the owners will think about me, and what I should do to remedy that.

Those contests are all about the $$$ they get from the singers.

You are lucky they even taped anything at all. Most just run with the money.

I hear that happened here in L.A. not long ago. (Just a rumor)

:D

we've never done business with them, because when I spoke with them on the phone, and then later saw their website, I knew that they were a ripoff company.

essentially, a mobile that comes to town, uses your equipment for the karaoke bit, and then records you (you pay them that night for that privelige). THEN you have to pay for it to go on the airwaves!

what a joke!
