Purpose: User friendly home system. Goals: Make the most of my current components. Problems: I'm Hogans Heros- Sgt. Schultz... I know nothing !!
Components: Peavey XR 8300 Powered Mixer, Acesonic DGX-109 karaoke player, couple line mics, couple Peavey PA 12" speakers.
Just acquired a used laptop with Windows XP Pro (I think pro).
I already have about 50-75 CDG discs variety.
I'm wanting to get some Hosting software for the laptop to manage home parties or my wifes fun and, to protect the physical discs; and ripping software to transfer the 75 CDG's to an external Hard drive.
I think I need an external CD burner too that can PLAY as well as rip to my EXT. hard drive. In case a relative or friend brings their own disc with a song they want to sing.
Am I on the right track ? I figure I probably lose the player moving to the laptop. Oh well !
Thanks alot.

So far you are on the right track. I use Power Karaoke software for my home use. They do have rippers and hosting software too. Check out. External hard drive nice but not needed if you have desk top. Rip and burn to disc then include to your laptop later.

If You want a cheap software to host with look at JustKaraoke. It has all the bells and whistles that the more expensive softwares have. It has a store where you can purchase new music from on the fly if connected to the internet. Keychanger, multiplex button. even allows to set the venue you are playing in.
