I've spent many a time looking at this website. I love the roknrolla, but sadly it's rather unsuitable to leave in the hands of a stranger

Still wouldn't say no if one turned up in the post. I'd be quite happy to use it in the front room when I'm imagining I'm the next Joan Jett.

To me, it's simply another gimmick A lighted microphone stand is not going to improve your bottom line, it's not going to make people sing better, it's not going to make your equipment sound better. Very similar to the reality TV show "Pawn Stars" when they buy ridiculous things for their pawn shop and then they say; "I know I spent a lot of money on it, but it's going to look great in the shop."

However, it does do the one thing that every other microphone stand does: it keeps the microphone off the floor. I just don't know if I want another item that I would have to buy batteries for, or have to run a separate power cable to.

I don't consider ambience or creating excitement or something different as strictly in the gimmick category--it's another form of lighting and I do like pretty lights and think they add to the party atmosphere. But at the cost, that one would be hard to justify from a strictly business sense as far as would it pay for itself. But if you have the money and like it, who is to say?

It sort of makes me think of other ways to dress up the mic stand using available LEDs and batteries. I'd prefer cheap as I did have some 21 year olds go Pete Townsend on the mic stand one night--a rare thing but it happened. Having them fling about a $300 plus mic stand might give me a heart attack and cause me not to deal with them in a diplomatic way.

Ambience and fun. That is what I see it as. I considered the battery/power thing and I think the benefit outweighs the hassle. There are any number of way fo us to differentiate ourselves as hosts and this is just one of many.

Those look cool. I could see that looking pretty good in a show setting, with the right lighting. The place should be kind of dark.

Love it. Except that I burn through 3-4 mic stands a year. Any idea how durable they are? Couldn't I get pretty much the same effect by running a string of Xmas lights around my stand?

And now that I've said that out loud I think I have to do it next weekend...

Hey Chris, I found those about a year ago, and they are pretty cool. I would love to use one, but my singers are conditioned to me handing them the mic. I started that when I first got into the biz about 12 years ago to try and be more personal and connected. And, it has worked. I have great rep with my regulars. I tried to go to a mic stand about two years ago, and it almost caused an uprising! LOL

Chris, I found an led lighted mic stand for about 1/4th the price. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles, and doesn't look as bright, but I thought this could be an economical alternative. It's called the "Hottie" led mic stand. Just do a Yahoo search, and you'll find it listed. Depending on whether you want a tripod, or round base, they're 109.00 or 119.00 plus shipping. I personally like these better, (less intrusive), but still has the effect. Think I might have to get one or two.

Thanks for the info! I am checking all over the net right now for the best deals on these. I am trying to land quality as well though since I don't want to be replacing it in 3 months.

I have been seeing custom stands around lately so I went on a search, I kinda want a lighted stand. I don't think it's fair to say one thing is a gimmick over something else... almost everyone uses gimmicks in one way or another. Bowie was Ziggy in tights for Gods sake oh and sorry KISS? you name it. Who cares, music is art and not everyone is for everyone.

I did trip across something called Larger Than Life as well as Rebel, then I saw this thread. They seem to be the more in my price range. Since I'm not on world tour. LOL. The site was ltlrox.com. Check it out. Those might be the more cost efficient ones you are referring to.
