all the time!
I do always try new songs, even if they're "old" songs... because I try like blazes never to be in a rut of any kind. My voice has taken on a rougher "rocker" voice, but I remember singing softer melodies, and wish I could get that back...

gosh yeah its always good to try something new, many times ive suprised myself at what something does sound like ... some of my best subs i feel have been songs normally i would never think right i am gonna record that it suits my vocals...i think my fear is many songs i would sing others have recorded here, and i get blown away by many of them so i think people have heard that lets try bringing something different, i know its nice to hear a certain song sung in so many different ways i just worry to much i think of what other people are going to think....now i am waffling on again hehehe

It's like baked beans at a carry in dinner, Missy...They all taste different, and yummy...So sing what ever you want....lifes to short to worry.... I love to hear different takes on the same song...

I often have trouble finding something to work on. Usually if I hear something that I really enjoy listening to, I'll go out and look to see if there is an accompaniment backing available and go from there--- or sometimes my voice coach recommends something. Quite often, I like to try really challenging material which sometimes isn't quite made for my voice, and is sometimes discouraged by my vocal teacher (I end up trying to do a lot of soprano material and I am actually a mezzo-soprano). Also, it usually takes me quite a while to get a song down to my satisfaction, so sometimes I may be working on something for a couple of weeks or even months, so I usually have time to run into something else.
A couple of times, I have accidentally stumbled on songs which I just fell in love with and just went after them.
Just my $.02 worth.
Take care everyone--- I'll be out of town for about a week for a family emergency.

I have a pretty large selection of tracks (about 3000 unique tracks or so) and I'll just open my book, flip through cd's, pull one out and start singing. I've started playing all new cd's I pick up and going over the songs the same way. Doing this I find some material that I don't think I could ever sing is actually pretty easy for me while some songs that I thought I could nail there's no way in hell I'm ever doing in public.
Try just picking out songs you like at random and see if you can sing them. A verse or two should give you a good idea of whether you should work on it or not.

I never have trouble finding something to sing or record but...sometimes I'm just not in the mood for it. Or I think everything sucks. Then I just take a break for a few weeks.

Tell me about it MissyGG, Look at me Stcuk in an Elvis rutt , I'm not even one of these elvis fans that goes to all the convetions, and wears side burns at the weekend, I just find his songs are very much in my comfort Zone,So when im browsing for a new songs, I got like 723 to pic from .. If i had the voice, I would be posted More Rock songs myself, I am very much a U2 Fan, I tried doing Bono once but i was just killing his songs to much ..
I like a lot Of Bon-Jovi, Soul Music, Pop Rock Ballad, tunes, and a few Standards like Michael Ball, Irish music and Scotish, But my voice is what it is, and I'm enjoying what I am doing, as it keeps me surounded byu musicians like yourself, I dont class myself as a vocalist, more a guitarist, and with not being in a Band anymore, being on this site singing and listening to different tunes, really helps me get that band feeling around me.
besides Missy, you got a song to sing, my request
