After getting advice on this board I decided to order a JVC 3 drawer CD+G player along with a shure pg-58 mic. I got them from dts Karaoke for a decent price and free shipping. Just so all of you know all I have ever had before is the "box Karaoke" machine from Memorex. I have been very pleased mostly with this machine. Heres what I like and what I don't like about it. So you know I don't kj this is just for home use.

I like:

I. It sounds very good - I don't know if it's the player or the mic or the combination of the two but the sound is better.

2. The player has a remote control - this is great improvement when you are used to not having a remote.

3. Holds 3 discs less changing of discs.

4. Does in fact play back ups of my CD+G discs. (It is not needed to make any comment on my backups, these are backups of my numerous Sound Choice and DK discs). And I only play them at home.

Don't like:

1. There is only one thing that I don't like, but for me it is kinda a big one. The player plays CD-R's just fine. But it will not play CD-RW's. Granted I do not play many CD-RW's but every now and then I do like to put together a quick compilation of tracks. What bothers me is my cheap *ss "Memorex Karoke Box" machine played CD-RW's perfectly. Now for me this is more about principle than anything else. With it being the year 2004 I believe that a mfg would have to do very little to make a machine that is a little bit more compatible for multi-formats. I went thru this same issue with a Sony dvd player that would not play CD-RW audio discs when almost every other mfg out there would.

Anyways you probably think I'm being picky but I don't know whether or not I'm going to keep it. Have many of you had any experience with the RSQ 505 Dvd player? Do you like it? Any reason why you like it better than the JVC player?

Any input appreciated?

I suspect that may have been intentional about the cdrw. If ya look at when that machine was designed, I'm not even sure they had them then. The other thing is that even if they did, the designers may have left that out as an issue dealing with making copies, copywrites, etc.

I have to agree with Ron. The machine was designed in the ERA of CDG,DVD,LASER,VCD.

Burned discs were not the status quo. The JVC triple tray is a pro machine. Most pro's are not running burned discs Including me.

I appologise If In any way my opinion was Involved In your decision.

If you love the sound, Why not just order custom discs or look for discounted originals?, Best, BJC

does any one have this player?

CAVS DVD-202G II CDG/SCDG/DVD/VCD/CD-R/CD-RW/Mp3 SUPER CD+G KARAOKE PLAYER

One of the posts that I had read said that all the CAVs equipement was junk. Does anyone agree or disagree with this?

How do you like or has anyone had any bad experiences with it.
Does anyone like the RSQ 505 single tray better than this?

Or do I already have the best karaoke machnine - The JVC 3 tray and I should just stop whining and keep this one?

Any replys appreciated?

I swear this is the last time I will ask about a karaoke machine.

Just a personal opinion. What you have is good. I've heard more good things about the RSQ-505 than the CAVS, but I'd stay with what you have and get away from the burned discs.

as far as cdrws, why bother, when the price of cdrs are so flippin' cheap!!

I mean, 100 for $29.00 RETAIL?? sheesh! And that's not even "shopping around"!

nothing wrong at ALL with the medium of cdrs. ESPECIALLY for home use. The fair act allows for it.

As for the cavs super cd+g, it's good with it's own stuff... but the moment you put in a regular cd+g machine, it's up to four or five seconds for recognition. The RSQ isn't too much better. BUT it is a little faster. I've found about the same options with the RSQ VS the CAVS. As I said before, when other manufacturers go that route, and we can convert our existing library to that format, I'll shaddup

ALL DVD machines that recognize multiple formats do this!

The JVC triple will do it when you go away from the standard cdg/cd interface. You put in a VCD, it's about four or five seconds for it to recognize it!

Matt

Thanks for all the input from everyone. Knightshow finally made me realize that I have the about the machine for Karaoke CD+g playback. I'm going to stop my whining now and just enjoy the machine.

I was just worried this machine was going to be outdated soon due to it's lack of playing different formats. If my current DVD player (Panasonic) was a little bit better at playing more formats I would probably not have been worried about anything in the first place. It plays DVD's fine but it does not play SVCD's or MP3 disc very well at all. Anyways thanks everyone for all the help. This is the last post I will make crying about my JVC player.

Joey, The JVC/RSQ players are not going away soon. About 70 percent of the kj's I know use them weekly including myself. They are a quality durable product and that is what we love.

Good luck with your karaoke, Have fun, BJC

I also have both macines. I am only keeping the CAVS as a back up & incase I have a singer come up to me w/ a super CDG+G. I Tried Chartbuster 450-3 On Super CD+G & it sounded terrible & it looked terrible, but DTS took care of me when I told them of the problems.

The triple tray JVC/RSQ is a fine unit, especially for the price. On the downside for me is:

1. Doesn't show time remaining on a track.
2. Can't go into pause mode until after it reads a disc.
3. It has relatively slow (IMO) read time.

These are not show-stoppers. I have one and use it regularly, but I prefer the Pioneer twin-tray (which I also use in a house system) for these reasons.

Do not like it!
Mine locked during a show.
Holy standstill!
I ran to another bar that had karaoke to see if the KJ had a backup in his trunk.
Nope.
Then I polled the audience if they wanted to continue audio only.
Sure!
So I replaced the JVC Triple with a CD player and we tried that while the doorman started to beat the JVC with a baseball bat.

Somehow, he got the disk out and the unit functioning on 2 trays.

We swapped units again and finished normally.

I took it in to JVC and they recombobulated the thing.

I never used it again.
It's like a damn $300 doorstop.

I cross rented a pioneer 2 tray.
Never had a problem.

The issue with the JVC is the elevator mechanism and all those little plastic gears which are really neat to make into jewelry.

My opinion
-------------
For the KJ - No
For Home - Maybe to Yes

Apart from lqughing my @ss off, I feel your pain... My normal rig took a drink one night towards the end of the show (mental note - Beer + Gear = Bad). I took it in for service and had to purchase my very first back-up deck... I lamented at the shop not having the JVC 3 tray, but the manager offered me a killer deal on the Pioneer 2 tray. The main rig has been off in manufacturer land for over a month now and the Pioneer hass been working GREAT!!

2 complaints though-
The trays feel flimsy.
The remote is only for the play functions - I tend to move around a lot so it would be really spiffy if it had the key adjust on it also..

I've had these suckers for two years... and never a problem. The discs don't jam in the drives, but I don't put anything in there wrong, nor anything that doesn't belong!

I will never use a cdr with a label adhesive, because they can come UN-Adheased! LOL!

I also use a RSQ505 in the show, so if one player died, I have a backup!

I think ANY pro karaoke show that doesn't use two players (or have a second with them) is just ASKING for trouble!

Matt

I was really considering doing this. Tell me more about what happened with the CB 450 Essentials. Why were they so bad? and How were they bad? I just really need some first hand advice before I blow any cash on junk.

I had the JVC 303 until I accidently smashed the FF dial into the unit and screwed up the control board inside (always buy quality cases..lesson learned the hard way).
I currently own the RSQ 505.
I think I like this unit better than the JVC because it seems more durable. The thing I did like about the JVC was that I could program three discs ahead of time which helped when we did "solo" concerts and impersinations.

Where was your backup?? A professional should have a backup plan... What if that had been your Amp, Board, RF Modulator, TV, etc...

Nothing personal Mailbujesus.... just pointing out something

Granted I don't carry an extra TV, but i do carry a backup amp (powered mixer), player (little $29 memorex - hey it plays), RF Mod.

What if that had been a wedding and that was the grand enterance??

Personally I would rather have 2 single trays then 1 tripple tray, my co-host has a Pioneer V10G (have not played on it yet, i'll report back)

I have a friend that has 3 tripple tray players, the original one was having issues with the top or bottom tray..... it really had issues after the house fire. they got it fixed and it works OK as a backup/end of the world situation, the other two are in their 2 rigs.
