I need a new DVD player and also want to buy a karaoke player. Is there a disadvantage of buying a multi format player? JVC triple tray seems to be the standard but it doesn't play DVDs. I know Karaoke DVDs are not that popular but are they worse than CDGs in terms of quality.
Currently I'm looking at buying the API 701 or the CAVs 202. Does anyone know which one is better?

I have a few inexpensive DVD players that I'm not at all too pleased with. If you're looking to use your DVD player at it's maximum potential and a CDG player, I'd lean towards a Pioneer 555 player. I know there's plenty of companies offering to play both formats but there's something about that DVD / CDG bridge that gets a little too gray for my taste.
I've sold alot of karaoke products and seen too many walk back through the door.
