As far as I am concerned I cant detect the quality difference on cables until they fail to make contact and I get no signal.

I figure I got a bad brand at the beginning, and I have had already two mic cables fail.  A couple of people have been abusive of the mic but by far that is the exception. I think I have been quite unlucky to go through 2 cables in only 15 shows.

Most of my crowd is young and some of them can be wild, but that is the exception.

I have just decided to keep a couple backups ready, but still go with mid price cables. I figure that when someone is being really wild droping or pulling on the mic it will ruin any brand's cable.

I've been recycling my original cables and the additionally purchased "Special Pack"
from MF for 10 cables for $50. One of the regulars here mentioned that its the first 6-8" from the mic is where the wire frays. Historically this is very accurate. To be more exact I use a continuity tester to ensure the area of the problem, then snip and resolder fittings back together. This can be labor intensive, but you do get faster as time goes on. I can do it at my work (water operator) with no problem. I have not bought cables for almost a year now. I wait for 5-10 cables to get backed up, then take to work and repair on company time...best of both worlds...

If I get an outside gig after the bar goes away, I'll probably go with Lonman's idea on the guaranteed cables...a lot less work, and no additonal cost after the intital purchase, just side trips to the Guitar Center.

I would love to have a wireless system, those floor cable clogs are a pain!
But that's just too costly at this time. Wireless definately has less aggravation than cables, with no replacement cost, but high initial cost.    Choices    :yes:

That is pretty quick, i've never lost one in that short of time, so these are either bad cables to begin with or the singers are really yanking on the cords or swinging them like the rockstar wannabe.



Which is nice about the lifetime warranty, get a new cable everyday if needed instead of having to repair or repurchase more cheap cables everytime one is needed to be replaced.

The only cables I lost were the ones I bought at Guitar Center. The salesman said "don't buy that cable, buy the Live Wire" but I said that I was just an amateur. Ha! I should have listened to him -- the cables both have failed by now, just a year and a half and a bunch of my "amateur"  gigs later. I have finally figured out that I need pro gear because I do pro work in a volunteer situation.

I have also had good luck with the EWI stuff I bought from Audiopile. If they weren't so far away and had such long ship times, I would probably buy some more from them.

Ive had 1 cord go bad so far in the last year. it was a 100 series monster. now I only buy the 500 series. I don't worry bout swinging mics any more.  I only buy the 30' model , if I don't need that much I tape it back under the table.

one reason why some of us realize a larger difference with a change of cord than others do is that you are only as good as the weakest link. putting a top notch cable between a radio shack mic and a peavey mixer and speakers  is a waste.  It seems that most disagree with my views on monster, but do believe in buying cables with a warranty. I will keep buying what i have had good luck with.
