I've been recycling my original cables and the additionally purchased "Special Pack"
from MF for 10 cables for $50. One of the regulars here mentioned that its the first 6-8" from the mic is where the wire frays.
Historically this is very accurate. To be more exact I use a continuity tester to ensure the area of the problem, then snip and resolder fittings back together. This can be labor intensive, but you do get faster as time goes on. I can do it at my work (water operator) with no problem. I have not bought cables for almost a year now. I wait for 5-10 cables to get backed up, then take to work and repair on company time...best of both worlds...
If I get an outside gig after the bar goes away, I'll probably go with Lonman's idea on the guaranteed cables...a lot less work, and no additonal cost after the intital purchase, just side trips to the Guitar Center.
I would love to have a wireless system, those floor cable clogs are a pain!
But that's just too costly at this time. Wireless definately has less aggravation than cables, with no replacement cost, but high initial cost. Choices
