I have a simple home system which includes a cdg player, api a-801 mixer/amp and api speakers.  I purchased a BBE 362 sonic maximizer hoping to enhance the vocals and music.  I gather from reading some of the topics that I cannot use the bbe to enhance the vocals with this simple setup.  I was hoping that I could still use the bbe to enhance the music by running the player into the bbe 362 then running the bbe 362 into the mixer/amp.  My problem is that the player has rca outputs, the bbe 362 has only 1/4 inputs/outputs and the mixer/amp only has rca inputs/outputs.  Do I need special cables to hook this up or just any cable that has rca to 1/4" connectors .  I have standard rca cables.  Can I just use an adapter?

Well you'll need to get RCA to 1/4" cables, but you use the Pre loop in the lower right corner on the back of the amp.  Pre output L/R of the amp into the input of the BBE.  Output of the BBE into Pre input of the amp!  This will adjust the overall mix - music & mics.  If you want JUST the music - simply leave the pre loop alone & run the player into the BBE & the BBE into the mixer front where you'd normally plug the player in.

You can also get these from Rat Shack as well.

Thank you!  Do you know if the BBE will make a noticeable difference or not?

It should but all systems react differently to different processors.  Remember this is not a bass/treble control - even though it does mimic one, it is a frequency realigner - one of the biggest mistakes is people think of it as tonal control & turn up the knobs like they would bass/treble.  If you want to use it to cut/boost frequencies, you should get an eq.

I have another question for my dad's karaoke setup.  He wants to run his Alesis Multimix 8fx mixer into a BBE 362 Maximizer then into his amplifier.  The manual for the Alesis mixer states that you need to use only mono TRS cables (which I can't seem to find; seems that TRS cables are stereo cables) and the BBE maximizer states that the inputs for the BBE are unbalanced inputs.  I don't know which cables to use.  Can I run balanced cables from the mixer into the unbalanced inputs of the BBE?  Thank you in advance.

You would probably be best advised to use unbalanced cables, but I don't think you would have a problem with balanced.

By the way, TRS is not equal to stereo. TRS cables are used for stereo connections, but usually only as a splitter to RCA or unbalanced 1/4" connections (as in an insert cable). But TRS is also used for balanced patch or signal chain sends.

In pro audio, there are very few single-cable stereo connections.
