Please help me before Christmas! I am in need of a decent karaoke player that I can hook up to my home theater system that I have not yet bought. I will be buying the karaoke system first. What do I look for so that I can hook it up to my surround system that will be hooked up to my tv? This is for home use only, but I want something that sounds good and one that I can use a variety of media with. I have no idea what cd+g, and all the rest mean. Please help! I am getting a laptop for Christmas but have not idea what kind. How do I set it up to become my karaoke player if I want to just go for that? Can I just put the songs on the computer, hook the compuer up to the speaker system and tv and go at it? I suppose I need a program for the computer but not sure which one. I'm very confused. I want as little equipment as possible. Thanks!

Diane

Well for starters you really don't want to run it through a home theater system, the speakers aren't really designed for live vocals.  You may be better off buying an all in one unit.  Maybe something like
http://www.karaoke.com/cgi-bin/WebObjec ... key=350268
Not sure what your budget is, but this comes with a couple wireless mics, 1500 songs to get you going, plays several different types of media & is on sale right now for almost half off.  This is a self contained unit basically plug in & go.
You can set up your laptop to be a karaoke player, but then you run into needing to buy & convert your discs that you buy - there are a couple of legal download sites that you can buy each song.  And again, you'd need to run it into your home theater, which isn't recommened as you can blow your speakers.

Other opinions are sure to follow - this is just 1!

I don't know how much you want to spend here is a system I just saw on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vocopro-Gigman-New-Karaoke-player-machine-cdg-kareoke_W0QQitemZ270192731988QQihZ017QQcategoryZ64607QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If you just want a player that can plug into a tv and your sound system
http://cgi.ebay.com/MixSonic-MS-1088S-All-Region-Divx-5-1-CH-Karaoke-Player_W0QQitemZ260190293903QQihZ016QQcategoryZ64608QQcmdZViewItem

this unit has echo and +,- key adjustment. it also plays DVDs

I would HIGHLY recommend you stay away from the vocopro systems... only thing of theirs I even liked was a dual wireless mic system they had.

My two cents, other opinions may vary. I know karaokescene sometimes gets into hot water with their advertisers... but dang it, I've PLAYED with many vocopro systems and always found them lacking... either pixelated screens that other players didn't have a problem with, not recognizing discs, overheating... you name it, they've done it.

Agree with VocoPro as a rule, for home use only - not pro shows, would be the only possibility.

What he said.  Good for home use only, but I highly recommend the VocoPro Duet II.  It comes with wired mics only, though.  You would have to buy wireless separately, but this gives you and opportunity to get something beter than VocoPro mics.
