I have had to have my assistant search for to many mics. They take them out into the crowd with them, then after they are done singing, they don't bring them back. And no one seems to know where it went. No one at my club gets off on this, when they are standing there waiting for a mic. If they want to bring their own, they are welcomed to. Then i can simply turn it off after their done. But not with my mics. And it has been more of the gals doing this, then the guys believe it or not. ...."I want to sing the second verse.....no i want to...no i do"....next thing you know it's a tug of war with an AKG....
ahh, understood. i've never worked (or been a patron) in an environment such as that, so naturally i was naive to that sort of thing going on. those are all valid points.

So AKG isn't exaggerating then, I find that very impressive to get that kind of milage out of a AA battery, plus I understand they are well made, Good specs and last but certainly not least, they look pretty kewl LOL . I never thought about using photo batteries before either. Thanks for the input.

I go the other way. You can buy carbon-based 9v batteries for $0.47 apiece. They last at least one gig worth. So I take out the old ones, and put them in a pile for practice use. And I start the gig with a fresh 47 cent battery I know will not run out mid-gig.
The old "heavy duty" battery now is the best energy buy, since you get 60% of the maH of an alkaline for 35% of the cost. You do have to replace more often, of course.

I use Sennheiser g2's now. They are only $500 each. Compared to my shure I use for weddings that was $1600. I carry 2 of them plus 2 older wireless that are more than a year old. With approximatly 210 karaoke shows a year it makes sense to spend $4.76 a show on a quality microphone. The figure is if the both last a year. I generally buy new equipment every 3 years so $1.58 a show it makes sense to not be cheap and use good mics.
I still have my Shure and AKG wireless and use them all the time. a few are more than 6 years old. If you buy quality equipment it will take the abuse.

Ditto on those sennheiser evolutions g-2s! I own one also. They're built like tanks and sound great. I think they are worth the price they ask for them, all metal construction and heavy in the hand. ![Read :read:](./images/smilies/read.gif)

Where do you buy them at? I didn't have any luck finding them.

I just borrowed my AS990 unit back for a gig. I don't think I will actually use them, though, because the quality and handling noise are no longer up to my standards.
If you want them, you can get them at karaoke.com (as the API 890 now, I think). For the $188 they want for them, I personally would buy a Sennheiser Freeport. Then I would save for a second one later.

the API unit isn't the same one, but comparable.
If you can still find it, get the AS990 one. It's miles above the 890!
As far as where you get them??? Yeah, they're out of stock currently.
I'll be the first to admit that bothers me a lot. Maybe they've had bad customer support issues with other folks, and stop production... I dunno.
Chances are, I'd go with what the others are recommending, as that they are available, rather than scouring the globe looking for something you can't find on a simple google search!
Karaoke.com has a basic dual wireless that looks like the old as890s. They MAY be the same ones with a different manufactured label... I get really itchy about stuff like that.

FYI Sennheiser Freeports are discontinued and not one retailer I know of has any in stock after the price drop to $150. The instrument and lav systems are around but not the handheld mics.
I love to pick up about 4 of them to have for the drunks but I could not find them anywhere. I'm going to pick up AKG dual systems, they are $350 to give to the people that are trashed.
If you know where I can get a Freeport or 4 let me know.

Yup, you are right. When something is too good to be true, it won't be true for long...
Mine is a great-sounding mic, but I guess I will have to look at other options for my next one.
