I’ve never done it, but considered it. (Mabye I was just too cheap)
You know, like those “glow sticks” or such products they sell typically for Djs to pass out?
I remember before DJ/Kjing, when I was the house soundguy mixing bands for a larger club in the area, I’d see girls come in with these little things lighting up in their mouths, which I’m thinking now were those things.
I didn’t know what they were at first, but I’m assuming they came from somewhere a DJ was giving them out.
Anyone use them (or anything else) for little give-aways?
Does anyone think they’re a good idea, maybe for a particular situation, like to get someone to sing?
Or… just a waste of money?

How have you used them?
Or, how have you used them to your advantage, if any?

Could you please provide a general contact for such promotional items? Like a phone number/e-mail address, etc.. Message me if you don't want to send it out to everyone.
I have done many searches and am having trouble finding contact info for the "promotion" departments of the major beer companies/distributors.

At our little neighborhood bar we just talk to the guy that delivers the beer. He makes the coasters and posters happen when they need them. Our bar never asks for anything else, But from what I understand they can do custom printed things for the table and other giveways that are mentioned above... So In short I would ask the delivery guy at your bar and go from there...

I don't really think there are any CHEAP give-aways that could be used to entice people to sing except maybe T-Shirts. (people seem to love free t-shirts)
There are plenty of cheap items that can be used as PROMO or just fun items for all patrons.
Any glow items are always a hit ( sticks / necklaces / bracelets)
Inflatable items like guitars/ saxophones / microphones/ etc.
Plastic Tambourines and or maracas (sp)... get ready for a headache
Pens with your business name on them are always GREAT for promo when filling out a request slip

Our bar just asks their distributor, around here promo items can only go to the bars/taverns not to just anyone who calls. We have giveaways all through the year.
As far as the above question whether it's a waste of money - yes it is IF you are paying, because it's not going to bring more people in - it's not a lure. It's a bonus for once people are there. People love getting free stuff, but not if it's going to cost you.

Talk to the guy that delivers the bear, or look up the local distributors in the yellowpages. Either should be able to point you in the right direction.

Oriental Trading Co. is a good source for bulk items. I also go to the dollar stores for giveaways. Once in awhile after a holiday, the local grocery will have lots of cheap $.25/$.50 items - CD cases, stuffed animal things NASCAR goodies, etc. I do this more for private parties (especially kids ones), more to reward reluctant singers and to help build the fun. For routine bar gigs, the bar (or distributors) are a good source (and Oriental).

I agree about Oriental Trading, it's a great place to buy stuff. I buy beads from them and give them out to those who sing as an incentive to sing. If I remember, it costs like $20 for 144 of them. It's not free but it's not too bad. I also bought a bunch of glow sticks from ebay, those you put around your wrist, and give those out, specially at events for kids. The kids love those glow sticks. Adults love beads so that works out great. It's an incentive to have people sing and it works well.
