For gods sake, can you give it a rest? Or at least take it to threads where that is the topic?

True, that angle is getting pretty played out.

I agree they do have a bunch of songs that no one else has, doesn't mean they are done well, of course if it's the only version, people are going to take a chance & accept what is out.
As far as lots of kj's out there having them in their song list, you know as well as I that many kj's (especially newbies) buy what they can for as cheap as they can to have a BIG library - regardless of the actual quality of the manufacturer, the SGB set is very alluring to those who want to grow their books cheaply.  Plus these are also one of the sets that are packaged with the CAVS systems & the Super CDG's (at least I think).  Yes I am sure that SGB has it's gems - any manu will, but I tell you I haven't heard 1 yet & i've had people bring them in as their own discs & again, I had 20 of them given to me & deemed 2 as somewhat passable.

Sometimes I run across a post that cracks me up.  This is one of those.  There are probably no less than 100 manufacturers worldwide and the two that seem to rise to the top are Sound Choice and Chartbuster.  I used to think all Music Maestro sucked, then heard a couple of songs and thought hmmm ... Sweet Georgia brown is hit and miss, but some songs are the best I've heard (almost exact to the original recording - Simple Man, Lynyrd Skynyrd for example).  I won't sing it on any other brand.  It's all hit and miss, some SC tunes suck, but you're less likely to find them in bulk like on some other Manu disks.

Star Disk has some good tunes, as does Zoom and Sunfly, the list goes on and on, and on ...

Sound choice has the option of previewing songs on the Internet.  That's a plus.  It's all in preference.  Sound Choice is my preference if I have 2 or more choices and need to choose quickly.  They're the most reliable IM(not so)HO.

I crack myself up alot too.

So do you prefer that version of Simple Man because it was the one you are used to?  I know SGB & CB were about the only versions out there for a long time & I wasn't impressed with either (which actually both sounded the same oddly enough), I don't hear what you hear as far as it being musically accurate - IMO it was far from.  SC finally came out with it about a year ago & it is dead on.

Yeah ... no.  I practice my own karaoke via CD, and judge a CDG by how close it gets to the original.  I couldn't believe the SGB version was so close.  I have the SC disk with Simple Man on it and it let me down.  I was expecting even more.  Sometimes it's as simple as a deep bass line.  SC doesn't always measure up.

I know I'm that way about a 38 Special song, Lonnie!

MM had released "If I'd Been The One" quite a while ago, so I sing that whenever I want to go out. I finally bought the SC one because it was on a disc I wanted, but not for that song. To be honest, I never tried it.

Same thing with a few others.

Interesting.  No I judge the same way & did not hear anything close to the original on the SGB, the SC version was very much fuller musically & closer IMO.  But this is where everyone gets to recommending different versions because we all hear differently.  I guess I am looking for more technically accurate as far as recording technique goes.  This particular version of SGB is very synthetic sounding to me.

Could the difference be due to the different play back system?

Yeah that is possible.  Quality of speakers, proper power, etc...

One of the local KJs here has quite a lot of SGB tracks.  Can't say I've been that impressed with them but I can't quite put my finger on why.  I think the keys might have been a bit suspect on some songs.

My rule of thumb is if there's a sunfly version in the book, go with that.

I haven't seen them be wrong in key. They do have some funky arrangements, but as stated before the glaring deficiency for SGB is the lyrics.

SoundChoice fills that role here, though it is maddening how many KJs change the disk numbers to some random thing that removes the prefix letters.
