DENTIST OFFICE:
The dentist my mom used to take me to in Chinatown was, like most Chinese people, a huge karaoker. So in the waiting room of the dentists office, he had a karaoke Laserdisc player (Pioneer brand) hooked up to the TV. Most of the patients waiting would flip through magazines, but the second I'd get there, the receptionist would pull out the crate with laserdics. They knew I just wanted to sing! I pretty much only had old time classics of my parents generation to choose from; Paul Anka, Peter Paul & Mary, Skeeter Davis, Isley Brothers. The disc set I believe was called Old Time Melodies or Old Time Love Songs, or some other corny name. Anyway, I would have a great time singing my dentist chair anxieties away even before I got my first shot of novacaine!

I've heard of cell phone karaoke too and car-karaoke (I wish there was a way to make my commute full of karaoke). What are the most unexpected places you've seen karaoke?

I believe I did karaoke as far north in North America as you can -- Frosty's Pub in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. It is most definitely the northernmost in Canada, at least the most northern liquor sales.

Imagine novocaine lips singing some Patsy Cline's Crazy

Similar to Dave Attell's Insomniac, I did attend karaoke in a Nudist Camp.  Just a guest so I didnt have to be in the buff, but hard to sing a song when someone dropped something on the floor and they had to bend over to pick it up.

How was it set up at a DRIVE THRU?? could you sing while driving through? Did they attach a mic to  your car? Was it like a Drive-In karaoke?

It was a karaoke show inside the drive-in. The inside was like a 50's soda fountian with restaurant seating. They had a once a month show...for all ages.

An all night bagel shop.  Another host ( a friend of mine)  started out there years ago.  It worked for 6 months or so, with NO BOOZE. They served espresso though- Not a lot of slow ballads.......
