Geez....I never realized what a troublesome life alot of kjs must have. Sounds like a dog eat dog reality in the entertainment industry....except for the Bigdog that is....he's the best, no question in my mind.  LOL

I finally had a chance to go out locally for some karaoke with a neighbor of mine and his g/f.
We went to a place that I mentioned here before as being not so appealing to me because it's so small of a place....about 12'x24' total seating and stage area....which doesn't allow for much comfort or cranked up sound system. But it is a place that my neighbor's g/f frequently goes to, so I was along for the ride. She doesn't sing, neither does he, but I was the reason they went.

I took my own cdgs because I'm comfortable with what they sound like so there aren't any surprises while up to the mic.
That was not such a good idea really. I had a hard time holding on to my discs when the place got rowdy because the kj would only hold one disc of mine at a time in waiting. My neighbors that took me wanted to leave shortly after, but I wanted to karaoke, so I told 'em go ahead, I'll get a cab home.
Well, there I was, all alone, in a place that I didn't really care to be, trying to hold on to my discs while waiting to karaoke, then, beer gets spilled at my table and drenches a few of my discs and covers. Then later, I even dropped them on the floor and had to scurry to pick 'em up before they were stepped on.

So what's my point? Not much. The kj at this place has been there for years and years from what I know. He seems to draw a fairly huge crowd into such a small venue, and it's karaoke every night from what I understand.
I can't really say whether or not he's a jerk, or if his practices are questionable....he seems like a nice guy. He made an effort to compliment me on my first song by writing on a song slip and placing it in the disc cover afterwards...."Thanks Perry!! YOU ROCK!!" LOL

Although, later, while waiting to sing again, he started a contest in the middle of the rotation that I was unaware of. It seemed to take forever to get my 2nd song in, so I went up to ask what's up? And he said he asked me if I wanted to enter the contest, but I don't recall him asking. I didn't get upset because possibly he did ask me.....I was just plastered outta my mind!! LMAO

I finally got my 2nd song in towards the end of the night.....that's how busy it was!!

Then I gathered myself into a cab to go home. It wasn't a bad night......from what I can barely remember now. LMAO

On topic, I'd say that's a pretty insecure kj who would get upset about a good singer attending their show. I guess proof that some don't really have a clue as to what it takes to run a successful, ongoing kj business.
To the ones who have that sort of attitude or demeanor towards their patrons, I'd really have to say.....dude, if your singing really sucks, or you're not comfortable with who you really are, then maybe kjing is not your forte'.

It wasn't that I was a good singer, the problem was that he thought that I was trying to steal his gig because the owners asked for my business card.  I can even understand that - but one I explained to him the I don't due karaoke then he should have let it go.  And the fact that he should have found out what was going on before flying off the handle.

Okay E.J., I see that in your initial comments. I just assumed that there was something wrong with him as to why he treated you that way. Who knows? Some people are just weird and have no business dealing with customers.
But obviously, your being a good singer is what brought the whole controversy into play for the insecure kj.
