If you were in the regular work-a-day, 9-5 world you'd demand time and a half wouldn't you?  Why is being a KJ or a DJ different?  That being said, I find being a DJ much easier that being a KJ so I have different pricing to reflect that.  Still, I am chargin more for DJing on NYE than KJing on a regular night.  Simply because it is a holiday...time and a half, y'all.[/quote]

actually that is not an option as I am salaried not on wages. My point is, if you dont want to work on a particular day you have the option to say no. That is the joy of being in business part or fulltime for yourself...you have that option.
Robdog I know where you are coming from but 1. I dont operate karaoke, I rarely work in bars it is normally private functions, restaurant work etc and 2. I prefer to set one price and give the same good service every day of the year I choose to work
Because I can never guarantee the availability of my partner (his committments are firt to the NZ Army Band and they travel worldwide) then I set my price reflective of the fact that sometimes they will have me solo and sometimes they will have a duo

Well as you can gather from my other post.  I have the NYE gig this year.  Never had one at this bar in the past, so we'll see how it works out.  I only quoted her $25 more than normal....on the whim I have to stay late, which I hope works out...she'll pay for the extra time.  Then it's a win/win for each of us.  If the crowd isn't there...I go home...if it's crazy...we both keep makin' money!  Over the other bar owners I've worked with..this lady seems to have the idea of good business down.  The prob is the place is out in BFE....off the beaten path.  Gotta get the word out to bring a crowd in there, which we're trying to do!  Just gotta nail down a good set-up at this place....I don't like anything I've came up with so far, keep working on it....MrD

I am looking forward to this NYE.  Am doing a party a the local fireman's hall.  Will have many friends and their families there.   The kids bring their video games - DDR, and I expect Guitar Hero II will be big.  We do contests (hoola hoop, air guitar, etc.) and games, give out prizes, and everyone has always had a good time.  Informal, safe and close to home - these parties have always been a lot of fun.  I passed over other offers for hire and have no regrets - this has always been a great NYE party (especially when my own kids come to it!).
