That alchohol doesn't do a very good job of killing germs, just like a wind screen dosn't prevent pops very well, wish they did. The sure microphones that many of you use, actually have a built in pop filter. Screens will keep the mic sucker from making out with the mic...they don't like the feel...lol....the only thing negative about a wind screen, is it looks silly. Time and time again, experts say germs are passed on from hand to hand, or hand to object to hand......keep your hands away from your eyes and nose, especially when touching things handled by others........

even with the built in pop filter my shure needed all the help it could get from the wind sock on tuesday. The wind was so gusty that the mic was roaring. Put the sock on and it quietened right down. The vehicle launch/fashion parade in the garden went down a treat and the commentary was popless

I agree, a wind screen is a must for outside, but it won't do much for the pop that comes with P-words.....one comes to mind....lol

ps and bs can be a prob for many. Used to be for me also until I met Marie. She would make me voice an ad over and over again until there was no popping. It drove me insane but none of my recordings at home have any filter of any kind on the mic so in hindsight I have a lot to thank her for

I've found just a sheet of Kleenex over the thing works excellent.

I'll never forget the first time I cleaned my mics. I was so grossed out. I couldn't believe how dirty the inner screen gets. I clean them much more often now.

You need to do more than wipe the outside, even if it is just for home use.  :oh yeah:

Nobody gets sick from the windscreen.   I spit on mine all the time, before giving to the next singer. LMAO  :O
