I happen to have one with 4000 songs. I had to buy it because my mom insisted that I bring one when I visited my relatives in the east coast last summer. Its effects are cheesy, but a lot of people love that sound. It's very handy and fun to use among friends. Most people enjoy the scores, and strive to get the highest score. Now, that does not mean good singing. Apparently, you have to be loud and follow the annoying tune even though the tempo is not quite right.
You know what it is really good for though? It's a good backup unit, in case your player, laptop, mixer, effects, or what have you craps out. I was a guest at a party a few years ago when the KJ's RSQ player stopped working. The KJ and her hubby who was the sound guy coudn't fix the unit, and just when everyone thought that the karaoke thingie was done for the night, a guest whipped out a MagicSing! That saved the party, sort of...
My opinion of this mic is that it is a very good toy, but should not be used in gigs. When I have visitors at home who love to sing, I just connect the MagicSing to my home stereo and TV, and let them sing their hearts out. Me? I enjoy singing on my new PA system in my garage, playing MP3Gs from my laptop. There is no substitute for having good music and using quality equipment.
For home use and entertaining friends, it's great.....wouldn't use it for a gig, not even back up. The whole unit fits in a purse, so taking it by a party and whipping it out if things are boring is great......the one's I'm used to have a different name, though, and are pretty dependable
